Trimbakeshwar, Nashik - Local youths allegedly intimidated trekkers near Ambai village on the Trimbakeshwar–Jawhar road on Sunday and demanded money. Trimbakeshwar police have detained three people.The group stopped a two-wheeler, claimed it had a scratch and started a quarrel. Four or five men then demanded cash. The tourists had a local guide and family with them. Residents say such shakedowns of visitors have been reported before.Police took three suspects into custody. Further inquiry and a formal case were expected on the travellers’ complaint.

Akola, Maharashtra - A shocking incident in Jamvasu village of Barshitakli taluka in Akola district on Friday left a 75-year-old woman dead and two to three others seriously injured after a Bolero pickup was allegedly driven over a house repeatedly amid a land dispute. According to preliminary information, the vehicle was driven onto the four to five times. The deceased has been identified as Sonabai Makharam Jadhav, 75, who was inside the house at the time. The house suffered extensive damage, and the incident created an atmosphere of fear in the locality.

Bengaluru - CCTV has surfaced of the 13 July stabbing of 21-year-old law student Amrutha. Police say she was attacked from behind after she ended a relationship. She died in hospital on 15 July. Two men are in custody. Amrutha worked at a pizza outlet while studying law. She had been seeing Dhanush, from the same area. She withdrew after learning he had been married, divorced and had a child, facts he had allegedly hidden. Police say his younger brother Surya attacked her on her way to work. Locals tried to stop him and were also assaulted. She was taken to hospital by auto.Jeevan Bheema Nagar police have arrested Surya and Dhanush. Investigators are also examining a reported money dispute. The family says she was targeted for rejecting Dhanush. Officers said they were looking at all angles.

Faridabad - A 28-year-old businessman identified as Rahul died by suicide hanging himself inside his garment shop in the Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad. Before taking the extreme step, Rahul recorded and posted a video on Instagram in which he accused his wife and her family members of subjecting him to severe mental harassment. In the video, Rahul named his wife Jyoti, mother-in-law Veena, father-in-law Bittu, and wife’s sister Neetu, alleging they mentally tortured him despite him performing all household chores, including sweeping and washing utensils. He claimed he was physically assaulted and false cases were filed against him, leaving him under constant mental stress. Rahul held his wife and her family responsible for his death and urged the law to punish them. He also stated that after his death, his property should be given to his mother, sister, and brothers. The case is being investigated, and further details are awaited.

Patiala, Punjab - A couple was attacked by a pitbull dog in Patiala while they were visiting a property with a real estate dealer. The husband and wife had gone to inspect a house for purchase. When they rang the doorbell, a pitbull inside the premises suddenly lunged at them. Local residents tried to intervene and rescue the couple, but by then the dog had already inflicted serious injuries. Both the husband and wife sustained multiple bite wounds on various parts of their bodies. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Patiala for treatment.

Navi Mumbai - The Food and Drug Administration and Navi Mumbai Crime Branch have seized 4,142 cartons of food products worth an estimated ₹5.75 crore after expiry dates on packaging were erased and replaced with new dates.The raid was conducted at Sadhana Enterprises in the TTC Industrial Area, Turbhe. Officials found that manufacturing and expiry or use-by dates had been tampered with. New stickers showing ingredients and nutritional information were also found to have been altered.The seized products included brands such as Lays, Kurkure, Bingo, Fun Flips, Maggi, Rasoi, Knorr, Hellmann’s, Thums Up and Limca. The stock was linked to 10 companies.Police also seized additional unlabeled and expired food worth ₹30,600. Investigators suspect an attempt to replicate packaging. An FIR has been registered at Turbhe police station under the FSSAI Act, 2006, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The process to suspend the food licence of Sadhana Enterprises has been initiated.

Sambhajinagar - A 22-year-old man traveling on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg was waylaid and had a gold chain snatched from his neck, police said. A case has been registered at Vaijapur police station. Sahil Satish Sonawane was traveling from Nagpur towards Mumbai on August 26. At around 4.10 pm near the toll plaza at Exit No. 18 on the Mumbai corridor, his vehicle was stopped. A Kia Seltos blocked his car while several persons alighted from a Mahindra XUV700.Four men approached Sonawane’s vehicle and got into an argument. One of them then snatched the gold chain from his neck. During the scuffle the chain snapped and the accused fled with it. The snatched chain, containing 2 tola and 5 grams of gold, is valued at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh, the complaint states. Sonawane later reached Vaijapur police station to file the complaint. A case has been registered under Section 310(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation is underway.

Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh - A horrific crocodile attack claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy in Bahraich district. The reptile dragged the child into the Ghaghra River while his uncle watched helplessly. The boy's body was recovered several hours later, police said. The victim had accompanied his uncle, Udayraj Singh, to their agricultural field near the Ghaghra River. While at the site, the boy went to the riverbank to relieve himself when a crocodile lying in wait suddenly attacked him. Hearing the child's screams, his uncle rushed to the spot and tried to pull the boy away from the reptile. However, the crocodile overpowered him, snatched the child from his grip, and dragged him into the deep waters before disappearing. As soon as news of the attack spread, villagers gathered at the spot. Police and personnel from the Bahraich Forest Division immediately launched a search operation. Nets were deployed in the river, but initial efforts failed to locate the child. The body was eventually recovered in the evening.

Tarn Taran, Punjab - A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death by his two brothers-in-law at a bus stand here, about a month after he married their sister in a love marriage, police said.The victim has been identified as Jagjit Singh. Police and family members said his mother-in-law, Kinder Kaur, called him to the Tarn Taran bus stand, telling him she wanted to visit his home. Jagjit reached the spot with snacks and a cold drink he had bought on the way.His brothers-in-law, identified as Jaspreet Singh and Harpreet Singh, were already waiting there. They surrounded him and attacked him with knives, family members and eyewitnesses said. Witnesses alleged the stabbing continued after he collapsed. More than 60 wounds were reportedly found on his body, including on the head and neck. A passer-by, Gurinder Singh, intervened and overpowered Jaspreet Singh. Gurinder was injured while trying to restrain him. Several others at the bus stand did not step in, witnesses said.Jagjit’s father, Tarsem Singh, a resident of Kadgil, said his son and Jashan Kaur had been in a relationship before their marriage. The family had approached the woman’s relatives to discuss the alliance, but they refused. The couple then left home and married about a month ago. The family has cited the marriage as the motive for the attack. Police reached the scene after receiving information about the killing. DSP Jaspal Singh said a forensic team collected evidence. Jaspreet Singh has been arrested. Police were searching for Harpreet Singh and questioning others connected with the case.
