We condemn the blatantly antisemitic “Israel’s Friendsgiving Dinner” protest that took place both inside and outside of Union Station in Washington, D.C., this week. It invoked one of the oldest antisemitic ideas in history: blood libel, or the idea that Jews kill non-Jews and use their blood for nefarious religious rituals (most infamously, the idea that Jews would kill Christian children in order to make use of their blood). We are firm believers and defenders of the right to free speech and political protest, including protests of the Israeli government’s actions and policies in Gaza and the West Bank — even protests we might disagree with or protests that make us uncomfortable. But we unequivocally condemn any demonstration like this that directly and blatantly invokes an antisemitic trope that has led to centuries of violence against Jews. (Video: /jolly_good_ginger)
