15 years ago, I woke up in Islamabad, Pakistan, where I had lived for 3 years as the ABC News correspondent, and drove about an hour and half to Abbottabad. I drove past Pakistan’s Military Academy, the country’s West Point, and turned into a neighborhood where one house stood high above the others. And ABC News aired the first footage from inside the compound where Osama bin Laden had lived and died. The Navy Seal raid was the culmination of a decade of work by thousands of intelligence officers–including some who lost their lives. And the top CIA officer in Pakistan at the time, the chief of station, was Mark Kelton, now a Senior Advisor The Chertoff Group, and a founding partner of the Five Eyes Group. Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman خالد بن سلمان met with President Donald J. Trump at the White House, according to a Saudi official. Saudi Arabia is concerned that President Donald J. Trump could escalate the war with Iran--and is being urged to escalate by Israel. bin Salman wanted to reiterate the kingdom's belief that escalation could lead to unknown consequences, including Iranian attacks on Arab capitals, desalination plants, and commercial centers. A senior Israeli official told me and other reporters today that, in the meeting yesterday between President Donald J. Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu - בנימין נתניהו, Bibi did not urge President Trump to escalate, but did go through the options on Iran, and raised the possibility that the U.S. expand the current naval blockade to block land routes into Iran. A separate Israeli official told me today that Israel is concerned about the current U.S. strategy being a kind of lack of decision--neither escalation nor all-out diplomacy. And this official suggested to me that that was not sustainable. That is a concern I have heard from other U.S. officials as well. As we reported earlier tonight on PBS News:
