Not all rescues are fake. Not all Nepalese lack integrity. Recent news about fake rescues in Nepal is very sad. It has given a bad name to our country’s reputation and hurt our economy. Those responsible must be punished. But please know — not all of us are like that. I have never, ever done a fake rescue. Not once. To this day. I have personally conducted more than a dozen real rescues — 95% of them for other outfitters. I have never charged a single penny for any rescue I have carried out. After Jim Morrison’s wife passed away on Manaslu, we stepped in to help her family. Other helicopter companies were planning to raise prices. I warned them. We made sure everything was done at the lowest cost possible. Elite Exped charged nothing for all the manpower and service provided. Zero. Then the rescue of Mr. Chin on Annapurna — no fee. Captain Dipendra from 8,700m on Everest’s South Summit- no fees , Kuntal: the list goes on. Not a single penny charged from my side . I have convinced many of our clients to walk down from high camps — even when tired, out of gas, or wanting a helicopter. I encouraged them to walk back to Base Camp. Because I believe: a summit is from Base Camp to the top and back down to Base Camp. That’s it. If you run a marathon and jump in a vehicle, you haven’t finished. Same on a mountain. That’s why I recorded this video — convincing my clients to walk down. I had many opportunities to make money. But money means nothing when it comes to my integrity and humanity. I have more videos like this. Because I knew one day I would need the evidence. Nepal is still a beautiful country. So many of our people have big hearts and are kind. Please don’t look only at this one sad chapter. To those who gave our country a bad name — you must be held accountable. But to the world: not all Nepalese are like that. Forget your protein bars. Forget your energy gels. This is how a balanced diet is done on the big mountains. 🍛😂 Two plates of dal bhat smashed. Then I pulled the whole karai and finished it. Obviously, my kitchen team lost it. ;) This is Base Camp dining, Nimsdai style. No supplements. No fancy powders. Just dal bhat, achar, masu, and these hands that know exactly what they’re doing. Some people ask, “Dai, what’s your secret for all these big mountain records?” I show them this. Rice. Lentils. Masu. Vegetables. Love and laughter. The kitchen crew doesn’t just cook here. A NEW START FOR NEPAL. Huge congratulations to the new Nepal PM Balen – a man who has spent his career fighting corruption – first as Kathmandu Mayor and now as PM. Nepal recently had a hugely important election, one that the youth of Nepal fought for. They made their voices heard - they want an end to corruption and a better Nepal for the future. They are brave and inspiring. The hopes of a nation now rest on this new chapter in Nepal’s history. There is a lot to do, but I know it can be done and positive changes can happen. The corruption has to end. Nepal and her people deserve better. Whether that’s fake news, business or Governmental corruption – it has to stop. EVEREST IN 4 DAYS FROM SEA LEVEL, NEW WORLD RECORD, NEW ERA OF CLIMBING EVEREST 🙌🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙇- Huge Congratulations Andrew ! He has just become the fastest person to go from sea-level to the summit of Everest in 3 days 23 hours and 7 minutes. Andrew Ushakov had a dream to be the fastest person to do this challenge, and show a different way to attempt Everest. Normally Everest missions can take 50+days due to acclimatisation routines, but Andrew wanted to show that with dedication, training and lots of preparation and hypoxic training for acclimatisation (*including 400+ hours in a hypoxic tent), it could be done faster. At Elite Exped we want to help clients achieve their big dreams in a safe way – that’s our priority. Andrew started his challenge from Sea Level, starting at New York on May 15th at 00.30am and flying to Kathmandu, and then flying to Everest Base Camp. Then he and his team climbed from Base Camp and stood on the summit of Everest on May 19th date at 9.22am – meaning he completed the incredible feat in 3 days, 23 hours and 7 minutes! This new record is a triumph, not just for Andrew, but for everyone who believes in their dreams. Andrew only started climbing in 2020, he is not a full-time athlete, which makes this feat even more impressive. Climbing Annapurna: A Journey of Leadership Reflecting back, this avalanche was the exact reason for my decision NOT to take the normal route up Annapurna. Annapurna was the first mountain of the project Possible, and it wasn’t only this avalanche that presented hurdles. The long summit push in waist-deep snow, the rescues, and my team being in charge of fixing the lines all played a role. I realize how pivotal that moment was. As a leader, whether on the mountain or in life, I know every choice carries immense weight. One wrong decision could be catastrophic. During my career within the Gurkhas and UKSF/SBS, especially on operations, I learned that 100% commitment is essential, and I carry that mantra as a major principle in my life. After this avalanche, the next morning, I flew my drone to scout the mountain, using skills I developed in the special forces. With no filming crew or high-altitude cameras, it was just me and my determination. Choosing the Dutch Rib route, which had never been completed before, faced skepticism. Many said it was impossible, but I was driven by a greater purpose. We managed to push through, fixed the lines not only for our team but for the rest of the season's climbers, and reached the summit, proving that with dedication and hard work, the impossible can become reality. For me, leadership is about integrity and commitment. Every decision I make is for the team and the mission. After leading over 200 successful expeditions during and after my military career, I cannot emphasize the importance of always giving 100%. The lessons learned along the way are crucial for making it safe. As you all know, I’m a big fan of both summit and safety; they go hand in hand with my expeditions. My 52 successful ascents of 8000m peaks, while guiding and leading the team, speak volumes about the power of collaboration and shared goals. BIG MOUNTAINS NEED BIG ACTION. This was K2 last year when our Nimsdai Foundation team, led by Elite Exped went to do the #BigMountainCleanUp. Yes, it is shocking. However, high altitude waste is a complex issue – some of it has been here decades. Waste and rubbish is a huge worldwide issue. From the plastics in the ocean to the land and rubbish clogging fields and hedges to the pollutants in the air and of course, on the mountain. We all need to play our small part in tackling this, and raising awareness globally. As a UNEP Mountain Advocate, I am proud to help raise awareness of the #BeatPlasticPollution movement – a campaign designed to raise the issue of waste from the grassroots to the Government and international level. The Big Mountain Clean Up is us playing our small part to protect and preserve these beautiful mountains not just for our generation but for generations to come. My Elite Exped team follow ‘clean as you go’ and ‘leave no trace’ protocols on all expeds and they are working with the Foundation and local guides to return to K2 this season to clean further. One key mission will be removing old ropes – these can be deadly if climbers accidently clip on to them. I believe that by working together we can bring about positive and lasting change. Part of that has to be education throughout all of society from people to Governments about waste and its effects on our home the Earth. This is where I studied by Post Graduate Diploma in 2012 – I believe that developing yourself and your skills is vital to achieving your dreams. To everyone with a big dream, and to all those graduating today - don’t listen when people say your dreams are impossible – you must be self-disciplined and believe in your goal. Make a goal that is bigger than just yourself. Make your goal something that will inspire others and make a positive change. Then work hard with all your heart to make it a reality. 14 PEAKS NO O2 – Forever grateful for your support. On 4th, I stood on the summit of Shishapangma along with the fixing team from Mingma G – a poignant and heartfelt moment I am still trying to find the words for. After 14 Peaks I wanted to continue to motivate and inspire and show that there are always more things to achieve and do in life. I dedicate this climb and new records to the memory of my dear mum and dad and Anna and Mingmar. I now become the fastest person to climb all 14 Peaks without supplementary oxygen (2 years 4 months and 28 days) as well as the fastest person to climb 14 Peaks with both O2 and no O2 together – in 5 years, 5 months and 12 days (23rd April 2019 to 4th October 2024.) I’m so proud to have stood on the summit with my brother and K2Winter legend Ming Ma.g – who completes his 14 Peaks no O2 mission too – we become the first Nepalese to achieve this! (Tribute post incoming soon on this legend!) No competition, just teamwork and huge respect! My mission has always been to raise the name of Nepal and all the Big Mountain climbing community and to inspire people across the world to know that nothing is impossible.
