Neemias Queta on Joe Mazzulla spending time with him in Portugal this summer: “It’s just surreal. A couple years ago, if you had said an NBA coach is coming to that specific gym just to see me and get to know me, I would have been like, ‘You gotta be kidding me.’” “He wants to make that extra step, extra effort, just to make sure you feel comfortable. And I think that’s one of the reasons why he’s such a good coach. He worries about people, and that’s why I’m running through a wall for him.”

Jayson Tatum spoke at length about his reaction to the Jaylen Brown trade today: “The NBA is an incredible business; it’s an incredible job, but there are some downsides to the business and moments like this, where you just kind of feel like you’re going to be on the team with somebody, because that’s all you know. And then it’s just like, one day you find out that they’re no longer on your team anymore. And, we’re all humans. We feel all those emotions. Going into the facility, and knowing that you have different teammates, and somebody that you’ve been to war with, essentially, is on a different team…”

Jaylen Brown explained how he’s memorized all of his teammate’s astrology and numerology in order to better learn how to communicate with them: “I learned communication styles that work best for each individual, and started utilizing that when I speak to each and every guy.”

Jayson Tatum on his message of gratitude to the team yesterday: “It was one, just being vulnerable, showing my appreciation to the team, of how they have played this season, how they motivated me every single day. The joy and competitive nature that they displayed, I wanted to be a part of that. And I say it all the time, going through rehab and being injured is lonely. It's not intentional. I couldn't practice for a while, I couldn't be in the game. When they were on the court, I was in the weight room, having to do my own thing. So you feel isolated, in a sense. “But I just expressed that being around as much as possible, going to games, being on the plane, really made me feel like I was still very much a part of the team, and how thankful to the group for just being themselves. I was thankful to the coaches that extended their days a lot by helping me during rehab and on the court and pick-up games [for] my conditioning. So I really just kind of telling everybody in the room that they all played a part in essentially helping me get to this moment.”

Jaylen Brown is not as down at the podium as I expected: “Game 7 is a game amongst itself, in a sense — the rest of the series, doesn't matter. It’s gonna be who's gonna show up on that day and be a better performing team.” “There’s definitely some stuff I see that I can improve.”

Asked (a very visible disappointed) Payton Pritchard how he balances processing a 56-win season with this outcome: “Just because you don't win a championship one year doesn't mean it didn't build for the next championship. So, when we won Banner 18, four years before that, we lost four straight — lost to Miami, lost in the finals. So those might have been disappointing years, but maybe those led to the championship. So, that's how I look at it.”

Dillon Mitchell on who has reached out to him so far: (Q: Jack Simone) “Jayson Tatum was the first one to reach out. Just say congratulations - Derrick White, Jordan Walsh, who I've known since for a little bit from the high school days.” “Me and Chris landed yesterday at like 3, and we went straight to the gym, worked out, worked out this morning. So you can tell the type of culture is here just by how the first two days have been just working out, getting around, meeting everybody.”

Asked Brad Stevens about whether he still gets the sense that Jaylen Brown wants to be in Boston from their conversations: “I’ll always keep our conversations private… I think it's appropriate, regardless of what the content of those conversations are like, but I think what I said is really true. I don't love the fact anytime it's a big public thing, As you know, we try to keep things as close to the vest and quiet as possible, and at the same time, knowing that the rumor mills is the rumor mill, and there's going to be a lot of noise out there, that's why you meet and be upfront as possible. But listen, I can't say enough good things about Jaylen… but I certainly am empathetic towards probably what that's felt like.”

Amile Jefferson on Derrick White coaching today: “He’s such a good guy, man. Me and him have gotten really close. Love that dude. Obviously, he’s incredible off the court, and more incredible on the court. And me and him have a great relationship. We talked about it. He was like, ‘I’m going to come coach a game.’ I was like, ‘Come on, let’s do it.’”
