The story of Cupid and Psyche dates back to the 2nd Century AD. It revolves around Cupid, a god, falling in love with Psyche, a mortal, to the horror of his mother, Venus. Determined to destroy Psyche and humiliate her for being human, Venus sets her four impossible challenges, which she accomplishes. The last trial is the most treacherous. Venus sends Psyche to the Underworld to retrieve a box of beauty, but she deceives her by filling the box with a sleeping curse. Though Psyche is able to retrieve the box, the trick puts her in endless slumber. Cupid, witnessing Psyche's determination and ability to pass all the tests despite the gods' treachery, intervenes and gives her Ambrosia, transforming her into the Goddess of the Soul. All the Gods at Olympus are forced to accept her as one of their own. We rewrote this ancient tale because it resonates with Nous Research's mission to democratize AI. Centralized AI companies, like Venus, wield their power with divine arrogance, proclaiming that only they can achieve the necessary breakthrough. They create artificial barriers, forcing others to trust their claims blindly and building political and financial moats, hoping these smaller players can't cross them. In contrast, the open-source approach is transparent, empowering users to see into the "box." We should use technology to revive ancient myths, learn from the lessons of antiquity, and challenge divine arrogance. We should also make technology comms beautiful again 🩶 work by: Wormwood John Galt Riva
