Shame Suits: Why Clothing Separates Us From Nature (And Our Bodies) We live in a world where being clothed is the default. But what if clothing was the exception? For us at Freehiking, nudity isn't provocation, it's our natural state. Clothing? Just "Shame Suits" that separate us from nature and our own bodies. Naturism isn't new. The INF-FNI (International Naturist Federation) has defined it since 1974 as: "A way of living in harmony with nature, characterized by the practice of communal nudity, with the aim of fostering self-respect, respect for others, and care for the environment." No sexuality. Just freedom. And science backs this up: ✅ Studies show that participating in naturist activities increases life satisfaction ✅ It improves body image and self-esteem ✅ It reduces appearance-related social anxiety Seeing real bodies (not idealized ones) makes us freer. [Research: Springer, 2017] But there's a growing threat: textile invasion. In Catalonia, historically nude beaches like Illa Roja and Sa Boadella are being colonized by swimwear. Naturists are sounding the alarm: "They're replacing us." And with them goes the calm, the respect, the freedom. The problem isn't "textiles" as people. It's massification and the loss of safe spaces. When a nude beach fills with clothing: ❌ Voyeurs increase ❌ Inappropriate comments appear ❌ Naturists feel judged and pushed out This has a psychological cost. Social pressure from clothing breeds body insecurity. Meanwhile, non-sexualized social nudity fosters acceptance of the body as it is. As research puts it: "Communal nudity reduces shame and increases self-acceptance. This is why Freehiking exists: - Nude hiking retreats in La Garrotxa (Pyrenees) - International expeditions (Mexico, Croatia, Caribbean) - Vanlife nudism: living free, connected to nature We believe the nude body isn't taboo, it's authentic.
