VIDEO: A carriage horse believed to be named Snowman collapsed in Central Park at approximately 10:20 p.m. Saturday night and struggled to get back on his feet. Instead of being safely transported by trailer for a veterinary evaluation, the horse was hitched back to a carriage and forced to travel through miles of Saturday night Midtown traffic. Meet Sophia, a 22-year-old, geriatric horse. In December 2025, at the first-ever independent exam of NYC's carriage horses, Dr. Kraig Kulikowski found her unfit for work. She was found to be in pain, with apparent leg issues. Seven months later, Sophia was spotted limping in Central Park, barely able to walk, her horseshoe falling off. A witness had to step in and demand the driver pull over. She was pulling a carriage full of passengers, creating an incredibly dangerous situation. She could have collapsed, seriously injuring herself, the passengers, the driver, and others in Central Park. We fear Sophia is still being worked in this condition. That's not acceptable.
