It's hard to believe Crimson was just smaller than this squash! When he first arrived, 3-week-old Crimson was emaciated and unable to stand due to injuries to his back leg. He still has a long road of recovery ahead, but he’s come a long way. ❤️ 📸: Keeper Angela

Clover is making good progress, sound on for her tiny noises. 💚 When a kitten is found alone, it means the mother couldn’t return, often due to preventable human‑wildlife conflict. This is why protecting adult mountain lions is critical for the species’ future. 📸: Keeper Nikki

Crimson CUBdate:this little rescued mtn lion cub continues to improve! Crimson’s little purple dinosaur may look like just a toy, but it actually helps him learn to stalk, pounce, and play— all behaviors we want to see in a developing young puma. 📸: Keeper Nikki

Spring has arrived, and what a perfect way to celebrate than with a bear waltz! The bears are waking up out of torpor, so you'll see them a lot more as the weather gets warmer! ☀️ 📸: Keeper Brittany

Clover CUBdate: this orphaned rescue is a fighter! She continues to improve: her blood glucose is stabilizing nicely, and she’s had her catheter removed. She’s eating up a storm, too! We’re cautiously optimistic that her condition will continue to improve 💕 📸: Keeper Amber

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Lola Tiger. Lola came to us in 2022, when Oakland Zoo participated in rescuing several large cats from an abandoned roadside zoo in Oklahoma, where they had been living in dismal conditions.

Brother bonding, bear-style 🐻🐻 Did you know? Brown bears communicate by “gaping” or opening their jaw right in another bear’s face. It might look intense to us, but they use these behaviors to communicate their intentions and strengthen their bond. 💞 📸: Keeper Elizabeth

Happy VetTales Friday! 🐾 We’re excited to share updates about our rescued mountain lion cubs, Crimson &amp; Clover. Our keepers are building great bonds with Clover to help make her future intro with Crimson a smooth one. 📸: Keeper Amber

Last Friday, California Department of Fish and Wildlife brought us an orphaned mountain lion cub from El Dorado County. We have been nursing this emaciated little one, now named Clover, back to health.

Good morning sleepyheads! The brown bears have risen from their annual slumber (known as torpor) and can once again be seen swimming, wrestling, enjoying the sun, and generally being the big loveable floofs we love. The black bears are still sleeping but will be up soon 🐻

These silly boys and the black bears are entering torpor season, a winter sleep where they lower body temperature, heart rate, and metabolism to conserve energy. Though less visible from Nov-Mar, this supports their health and natural behaviors. 📸: Keeper Leslie

Little Miss Baby Klipspringer is thriving! 💫 She’s healthy, alert, and growing more confident every day. Adult klipspringers can leap an impressive 10 to 12 feet straight up, so it’s great to see her developing better balance and boldly exploring her habitat. 🤗

TBT to the recurring display of ferocity that rescued mountain lion cubs exhibit early in the rescue process. This sight indicates the cubs have energy to improve, and as their bonds with vets grow, behaviors like this dissipate. Who do you think was the most fierce?

Baby pudu has a name...Quilla! In Incan culture, Mama Quilla is a moon goddess &amp; holds a special role as the protector of women. This mini but mighty Quilla is growing quickly &amp; loves to play hide and seek with both mom and dad. Come meet Quilla soon! 📸: Keeper Valerie

Spicoli and Silent Bob are Colorado River Toads, man, and they just got their annual physical exams at the vet hospital, including CT scans. Dr. Goodnight used an ultrasound machine to get a closer look at Bob’s liver. Both toads got clean bills of health 🐸 🐸
