Yesterday on AJE Inside Story, I highlighted how the shutting down of crossings with Afg and the bombing of the country by Pak yet attacks continuing was an indicator that the TTP problem was internal. Pak bombings had not killed a single TTP figure and had only hit civilians 1/

Today I told my fellow countrymen to remember that our disagreement is not with the common citizen of Pakistan nor should we let the hired accounts of our neighbors win by making us succumb to hate. The people of Pakistan are our Muslim brothers. But, if war is imposed on us then it is worth remembering that NATO lost its longest war to sandal wearing Taliban riding on motorbikes as they marched into Kabul. We do not want war but if it comes knocking then you might have Air Power and watches but we have the time.

There are solutions to the TTP problem but they require taking responsibility for past actions and engaging in diplomacy with Afg, something certain circles in Pakistan do not want. Afg gov is careful & diplomatic with its rhetoric whilst Pakistani officials continue instigation

The TTP is a major problem for PAK but both the problem & the solution are internal. The solution is political and definitely does not entail military escalation with Afg. Pakistani military must escape its lust for conflict and realize its issues are far bigger than a TTP 2/

According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, 7.2 million Afghans have been deported in the past four years. 1.7 million have been deported in the past eight months alone. The Taliban have designed and mostly approved the construction of 60 townships across the country to accomodate the returnees. Different provincial governments are also building houses. As difficult as it is economically and logistically to cater to such a number, the tight timeframe makes it impossible to manage it effectively. Whilst the WB reports a boost in GDP, experts believe that could be due to returning capital but the impact of the returnees will be felt soon. It is an uphill battle to document and vet all the returnees with concerns that foreign elements could pass through. The saddest part is that this expulsion is done as a pressure tactic on the Taliban and a collective punishment for the population. If Afghan recruitment into TTP ranks is a concern then humiliating refugees and bombing Afghan homes only strengthens the rallying call of the TTP. We discussed this and more on AJE’s Inside Story yesterday. You can watch the complete show here
