Everyone calls Gandhi the Father of the Nation, but for me, the true Father of the Nation is the revolutionary leader Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. Dr. Ambedkar worked tirelessly—2 years, 11 months, and 18 days—day and night, to draft the Constitution of India. His assistant, Nanak Chand Rattu, once asked him late at night, “Sir, will you eat something?” Ambedkar replied, “Tea is enough for me.” The assistant would bring the tea and leave. The next morning, when he returned, he would find the tea untouched. He would ask, “Sir, you didn’t even drink the tea?” Ambedkar would say, “I forgot. I became completely absorbed in ensuring the Constitution comes out correctly.” This happened repeatedly, day after day. Such was the dedication and sacrifice of the great revolutionary Dr. Ambedkar.
