One civilian killed, police officer and suspect wounded in Aalborg (Denmark) shooting A civilian was killed and both a police officer and the suspected gunman were wounded in a shooting in the Virkelyst area of Nørresundby, Aalborg, on Friday afternoon. Police were initially called to reports of a fire at a building. However, when officers arrived at the scene, they came under gunfire from the suspect, prompting them to return fire. The police officer was struck by gunfire but is reported to be in stable condition. The suspected gunman was also shot during the exchange and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. An Ekstra Bladet reporter at the scene described chaotic scenes as police instructed residents and bystanders to move away from the area. According to Ekstra Bladet, officers from Denmark’s Security and Intelligence Service (PET) tactical response unit are also present at the scene. The shooting has been brought to an end, but the investigation is continuing. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the attack. —EB Video: René Schütze

The Governor of Louisiana is lying. The people of Greenland do not want to become part of the United States, and they have made that clear. The future of Greenland will be decided by the Greenlandic people alone. For now, Greenland is a self-governing part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Greenland does not trade with Russia. Greenland exports shrimp to China. Instead of spreading false claims about Greenland, focus on your own state. Louisiana faces serious challenges with infrastructure, education, healthcare, and poverty, etc. Your time would be better spent addressing those issues than commenting on a country you clearly don’t understand. Respect the facts. Respect the people of Greenland. Shame on you.

Members of the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, I am a citizen of Greenland 🇬🇱 You must understand the gravity of the situation. The people of Greenland are not for sale. The citizens of Greenland are not slaves. Slavery was abolished in 1865, and the idea that a people or their land can be acquired has no place in the modern world, under international law, or within democratic societies. At this moment, the citizens of Greenland—from children to the elderly—are feeling unsafe and deeply unsettled by the current situation. No population should be made to feel fear or insecurity because of statements made by those in positions of power. There are no Russian or Chinese naval forces operating in Greenlandic waters. Claims suggesting otherwise are false and misleading. The United States already has a strong and long-standing defense agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark. This agreement has provided the United States with full military access to Greenland in support of American and allied security. You, as members of Congress, have a responsibility to act. You must uphold international law, respect the sovereignty of allies, and ensure that no attempt is made to take control of Greenland🇬🇱 You took an oath to the Constitution, not to President Trump. The monument consists of four giant white seated figures, each standing 9 meters tall, facing the North Sea. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in his opening remarks as he arrived at the summit, thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for achieving what “has been on the agenda since Eisenhower”—that the United States and Europe contribute equally to NATO. “We now have a NATO that has truly been transformed,” he said, reiterating how much Europe and Canada have invested in defense. Rutte also commented on Trump’s statement on Tuesday regarding control of Greenland. “A good process has been set in motion,” he said in a brief response to a question from the press. —TV2

DR (the Danish Broadcasting Corporation) has interviewed Cliff Stanley from Nevada, who over the past two days has attracted major attention in Nuuk after offering 200,000 dollars in exchange for support for making Greenland American. He plans to remain in Nuuk until May 19, when the special U.S. envoy Jeff Landry — independently of Cliff’s trip — is planning a controversial visit to the Greenlandic capital. US Ambassador to Denmark Ken Howery on Friday afternoon placed 44 new Danish flags in the flower planters outside the US Embassy, assisted by embassy staff. “I have been away this week — I was in Washington,” Howery told TV 2. “I participated in meetings between Greenland, Denmark and the United States.” “I have followed the misunderstanding surrounding the flags. I landed today, and I am now placing 44 flags in honor of the Danish soldiers who fell in Afghanistan,” he said. “I have the greatest respect for the Danish contributions. I know there have been many questions and a great deal of grief surrounding these flags.” Howery also said that he and embassy staff hold Danish veterans in high regard. “My team here at the embassy and I have the utmost respect for the Danish contributions,” he said. “Unfortunately, my team and I were not informed about the flags in advance.
