In 2018, China introduced an automatic machine that can lay high-speed rail at a speed of 1.5 km/day. In 2021, improved precision and the ability to work 24/7 allow automated railway construction machines to lay 2 km of track a day. Not long after, the robots expanded their capabilities beyond installing rails. Welding, painting and inspection work can now be carried out by robots. Automated equipment also digs tunnels and pours concrete, among other tasks
