Azerbaijani Girls Forced to Choose Between Hijab and Education Azerbaijan has tightened its school dress code, barring the hijab from classrooms for both students and teachers from September 21. In a country that is around 96 per cent Muslim, and whose flag bears a crescent on a green band, schoolgirls have been turned away at the gates, some in tears. Teachers who refused to remove their headscarves have lost their jobs. Among those affected is the daughter of a war veteran who lost his arm defending the country, and who has publicly asked whether he sacrificed it for a hijab ban. The move has triggered a backlash. Students have taken to the streets chanting “Hijab”, while women across the country have shared images online of themselves wearing the headscarf in solidarity. Critics point to Azerbaijan’s own constitution, where Article 42 guarantees the right to education, and Article 48 protects freedom of religion. For now, a law intended to push the hijab out of public life appears to have made it more visible than ever.

IDF Shoots Boy Moments after Receiving Aid from US Soldier In a heartbreaking moment shared on a recent podcast, a US soldier recounted a scene that continues to haunt him from his time stationed at the GHF aid distribution point in Gaza. "Amir, a frail child, barefoot, walked 12 kilometres under the sun to reach the distribution point. He only received a handful of rice and lentils from the ground. He approached me, kissed my hand, and said: 'Thank you.' Minutes later, as he was leaving with the rest of the civilians, the Israeli army fired gas and bullets, and Amir was killed on the spot." Scenes like this are not isolated. Aid distribution centres in Gaza have become “death traps,” where more than 1,050 Palestinians have been killed while trying to access food, many deliberately targeted with tear gas and live ammunition by Israeli forces and American private security contractors.

Thousands of Indian Muslims Rally to Protect 600-Year-Old Mosque From Demolition Thousands of Muslims have rallied in the Indian city of Ujjain to protect the more than 600-year-old Shahi Masjid from partial demolition, with worshippers gathering inside and around the historic mosque and some maintaining shifts inside to prevent bulldozers from moving in. Local representatives say the mosque dates to 1390 and fear removing part of its prayer hall and 120-foot minaret could endanger the entire structure. The BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government says the demolition is necessary to widen a road ahead of the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Hindu pilgrimage. The confrontation comes amid wider concerns over anti-Muslim discrimination and the treatment of Islamic religious sites under BJP governments. Human Rights Watch has documented unlawful demolitions of Muslim homes, businesses and places of worship in several BJP-governed states, while Amnesty International has described a pattern of punitive demolitions targeting Muslim communities as “bulldozer injustice.” For many Muslims in Ujjain, the fight has become a battle to preserve a centuries-old piece of India’s Islamic heritage.

El-Fasher Falls as RSF Siege Conducts Mass Killings and Starvation El-Fasher, once the vibrant capital of North Darfur, has fallen to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), plunging the city into one of the most catastrophic chapters of the country’s war. After a 500-day siege that strangled food, water, and medical supplies, RSF fighters stormed the city, torching neighbourhoods, shelling hospitals, and carrying out execution-style killings. More than 2,000 civilians were reportedly slaughtered in just 48 hours, with bodies left in the streets and homes. Footage emerging from the region shows burned districts and desperate families fleeing under fire. Over 150,000 people have been killed across Sudan since the conflict erupted, and more than 12 million have been displaced. Yet, global attention remains shockingly muted as a humanitarian catastrophe unfolds in real time. With El-Fasher now entirely cut off, hundreds of thousands of civilians face starvation, disease, and unrelenting violence. Aid agencies warn that the city’s fall could accelerate a genocide if humanitarian corridors are not opened immediately. Witnesses describe widespread sexual violence, mass executions, and the deliberate targeting of families attempting to escape. Despite the United Nations calling this a “terrible escalation,” diplomatic urgency remains absent and media coverage sparse. Sudan’s war has slipped into silence, but the stakes could not be higher; every day without international action means more deaths, more families broken, and another crisis the world failed to stop.
