Q: Were you disappointed to be pitted into traffic? Or was it the timing of the stop? "No I mean I was more pissed off about being crashed into by Carlos. In the moment I was hoping, maybe, they would not pit Lando because of that incident to at least give me the chance to stay in the lead but I think that's not very reasonable. I was more very upset in the moment about what had happened. I think the timing of my pitstop was fine. We wanted to beat Lewis and that's what we needed to do to do that."

Q: you haven't lost any confidence in your driving ability have you? "no I mean- I've just had to drive very differently the last couple of weekends or I've not driven differently when I should've. I think that's been a little bit strange to get my head around. these last couple of weekends the car or the tyres or something have required quite a different way of driving. I tried a few things today to change it up a bit, once we analyse if that was effective or not hopefully it'll help see some progress."

Q: What is the mindset now going into the summer break? "I mean, just try and reset and find some pace is the biggest thing. But on the strategy side, you don't plan a strategy for getting taken out by a back marker. So I can't blame the team at all for that. Just try and improve over the break, have a bit of time to reset and come back again."

Q: Can you tell us what was going on in the car and what you felt? "We had a bit of an issue out of the pits with no battery basically. With the actual crash, it was a combination of a couple of things. I think there's a large element of just me. You know cold tyres, I clipped the exit curb but I also had 100KW more power than I expected. So, you put all of those together and unfortunately it ends in the result we got. It's obviously just disappointing and a scenario that shouldn't be happening."

Oscar on the penalty: "I had a very clear opportunity, I went for it. The other two on the outside braked quite late and there was obviously a bit of a lock up into the corner but that was because I could see Kimi was not gonna give me any space. I can't disappear but the decision is what it is."

Q: were you aware, at that point, that he said to put you first to protect you from charles? oscar: nope. "it's something we'll discuss for sure. if you're in opposite teams, it's quite obvious that you just take that luck that you get but when you're in the same team, same pit crew, same mechanics there's a lot at stake for not just us but the whole team. I think the decision to swap back was fair so I don't have any issues but we'll definitely discuss it."

Q: how you feeling right now? "honestly pretty good! I knew going into today, I needed the stars to align to win the championship. Ultimately I tried my best, put myself in the best position I could to try and win the race to give myself the best opportunity but wasn't to be."

Q: can you tell us what difficulties you're having? "I mean it all feels okay, just no pace. it's a bit of a mystery. it's just been more or less the same gap all weekend so we'll have a look at where it was going wrong then but uh yeah. obviously a bit frustrating."

R: do you think one of you have to be prioritised to win the wdc? "I don't think so. it's still so incredibly tight and we've both said we wanted an opportunity to try and fight for the championship because we deserve it. I think it's far too close to start picking one over the other"

Q: Lando said he learned a lot from you this season, what have you learned? "It's been a fun challenge! At certain points, maybe it doesn't feel that fun but I think it's been a really enjoyable season for the both of us probably and I'm saying that as the person not champion so I've learnt plenty of things along the way. Even the last 3 years, I've learnt things every weekend from what lando does and it's nice to know it goes both ways. There's plenty more years to come of intense weekends and tight battles but ultimately it's made both of us better drivers and in some ways, contributed to the success that both of us have had this year."

Q: How pleased we're you with the start? "Uh yeah, that was definitely the highlight of my race and it went pretty downhill from there. I mean a lot of things to unpack. I think firstly, the pace on the hard tyres was just nowhere. And then getting taken out by a back marker never really something you think can go wrong but I was proven wrong. And then obviously the gearbox so um not the easiest of days."
