A ludicrous 'petition' was launched calling for the 'resignation' of Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch John X for being an "Assad regime remnant". While HTS & co. seek support of 'regime remnants' like: • Sunni 'kingmaker' wealthy merchant families of Damascus & Aleppo • Sunni ministers, politicians, military & intelligence officials • Sunni Arab tribes of great influence & power • Sunni religious scholars, and many more who once were pillars of support for Assad. All the while HTS endorses turncoat Sunni rebel commanders accused of war crimes by the rebels & pardons many Sunni military & intelligence officials in the former regime. Sunnis were far more deeply rooted in the former regime than Christians ever were. These movements to discredit Patriarch John X began after his statements in December rejecting dhimmitude for Christians, demanding equality & stating HTS has not reciprocated the Patriarchate's outreach for cooperation. To those who have followed what has happened it is abundantly clear this has nothing to do with Christian 'former regime connections' and instead with the unrelenting defense by Patriarch John X of Christians' interests as well as his leading role in building a united Christian platform in partnership with the Christian patriarchs & church leaders across all sects. In addition, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch John X is also the leader of the largest Christian sect in Syria and so it may not serve certain aggrieved groups to have an influential figure such as him about for all Christian sect and church leaders to unite with. But efforts to discredit him only intensified almost simultaneously after the French foreign minister met with him & the Syrian Christian Patriarchs, given the message it sends concerning global interest in the status of Syrian Christians & minorities as well as the implied consequences it will have on the acceptance of the new regime, which is not promising given the long list of systematic abuses & crimes it amassed or 'happened' on its watch in as little as one month. It's important for people to understand the motives for the sudden criticisms against Syrian Christian leaders who have taken firm positions for Christians' interests and the malice behind said criticisms. Video: Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch John X personally addresses al-Jolani during homily for the New Year, says there's no reciprocation from him as to Patriarchate extending its hand in partnership on building new Syria & other important matters.
