Before diving into Asake’s contract, let me remind you of some names you might have forgotten that left YBNL: “Picazzo, Lyta, Davolee, and Chinko Ekun”. It wasn’t just about contracts not going well; many left without gaining much from their time at YBNL. Lil Kesh was fortunate to have a successful collaboration with YBNL after his departure, leading to the creation of his own label, “YAGI Records”. Davolee also released a song in 2019 after leaving YBNL, where he shared a story that many fans struggled to understand. Talking about Asake contract without fully understanding his reasons for deleting anything that associates him with YBNL today shows the lack of accountability in the Nigerian music industry. Asake didn’t burn any bridges; he simply elevated his craft and made business moves away from his old record label without making any public statements. Situations like this are part of the reason why we lost the likes of Mohbad💔, Madrina FMK Cynthia Morgan went through the same issue. Nigerians often favor "padi-padi" business, a practice that has shaped how the world sees the industry, leading many upcoming artists to get carried away and sign deals due to the country's hardships. Would you blame Asake for signing and not renewing, or for buying himself out of the deal? Your response will reveal your understanding of business ethics. Also, did Olamide do anything wrong? With today's level of subpar music, much of which won't stand the test of time, listening to "Olufunmi Reimagined" highlights the state of our artists' minds compared to the original version. While many might disagree, what's the end goal of remixing a wonderful song only to produce verses that don't benefit society? The new lyrics often fantasize about a superficial world that doesn't help relationships grow, leading people to act like gold diggers.
