Simon Harris patronising & lecturing a passer-by about inequality, social exclusion and housing. Which is funny because the passer-by is actually a UCD professor who has dedicated his life to the study of inequality & social exclusion: Prof. Kieran Allen.

News of Sinn Féin election victory in the North features prominently on the Guardian website, one of the world’s most popular news sites. Back in Ireland, the Irish indo’s website appears to have buried the story so far down it’s home page you need to scroll for >1 minute. And still nothing! Propaganda by omission is not just something RTE specialise in. It’s endemic across Irish media. Bury the good news about parties or people that threaten the crony gravy train, go to town on the slightest whiff of anything that could even be insinuated as bad for those who threaten Irish elites. It’s comical, but also deeply destructive to any sense of democracy. But then that’s the actual role of Irish media - prop up the corny gravy train, lie and manipulate to do so, all the while pretending to care about democracy and the truth.

Today I’m returning as CEO of Web Summit. When I stepped back last year, it was the first time I had taken time off in 15 years. It gave me time to think about Web Summit, its history, why I started it on my own from my bedroom and what I wanted it to be. I took the time to reconnect with old Web Summit friends and I listened to what they had to say and what they wanted from Web Summit. Some incredible tech advancements, relationships, partnerships, and companies have grown from our events and I want to continue building on this. If anything I want to supercharge this mission even further to build even stronger communities within Web Summit. In a very real sense, as Web Summit becomes bigger, our aim should be to make it smaller for our attendees. More intimate. More convivial. More community focused. We will seed small communities at our events, and then help those communities thrive long after each event. I’m incredibly excited for the future with loads more to share. Ps. My favourite Web Summit trailer below 👇

Our new bookshop, The Whistleblower, in Dublin city centre is almost ready to open to the public. We held a soft opening on Saturday. It was great to see so many amazing Irish writers, academics, actors, comedians, activists, politicians & more. It’s The Whistleblower - cannot wait

10 years since Revolut came as a tiny startup to Web Summit. Crazy! We’re currently building fancy new structures in Lisbon for Web Summit in 10 days time. Largest number of both startups and investors ever, driven in particular by China, Brazil and Poland. Consultants off a cliff. Germany down for first year ever - clear indication of a recession. But that ain’t deterring entrepreneurs! I wonder who this years Revolut will be! 🚀💪❤️
