Last night we celebrated Diwali with family and friends, old and new. It was a beautiful evening commemorating the triumph of light over darkness, as well as the triumph of knowledge and wisdom over ignorance. And for many of us, it was a wonderful salve for all the anxiety we’ve been feeling, especially as we face this week ahead. We hope and prayed for light and wisdom to prevail on Tuesday and whatever lies ahead, that we as a country have the strength to face it. Om Shanti. The talented musicians that you see and hear have become an extension of our family after playing in our home year after year. Thank you so much, sroopama, @arunnj25, Sameer Gupta, and Damon Banks for the special experience. Arun and his band have a new album out too – it’s called New Moon by the Arun Ramamurthy Trio! Check it out!!

This is a South Indian vegetable curry known as a poriyal in Tamil. People assume that all curries are spicy, but here’s a lovely quick stir fried curry that is mild and easy to make. Use this recipe with other vegetables like cabbage, zucchini, or even boiled potatoes!

I remember several years ago I met Obama, and the first thing he asked me is where he and Michelle should eat Indian food in NYC. In the moment the only thing I could blurt out was "my house" (which is correct, that is still the best Indian food in the city), however that was before the recent influx of great new Indian restaurants in Manhattan. What’s wonderful is now you finally have regional representation and not just the usual saag paneer and tandoori chicken – although I love those dishes too. I want to give an honorable mention to Indian Accent NYC in midtown, as well as the OG kebab mecca @bukharagrillcaterer who catered my wedding a lifetime ago. Baar Baar too! And I’ve had incredible takeout from @gazabnyc too. I know there are still quite a few places that have cropped up that I have yet to try, but you must understand going out for Indian food is a new experience for me!! @unapologeticfoodsnyc Semma @rowdyroosternyc Progress Chef.vijayakumar

Best cure for the late night munchies: cottage cheese + chile crisp. If there is any condiment company who wants to bottle this South Indian Chile Crisp for me... I'd be very interested 👀 The mango curry video I reference is from August 2nd and I'm wearing a green dress!! Look for it!!

Heard there was a new taco spot in town and had to see for myself! When you order you can pick from the different cuts of pork - I had the maciza, costilla, and mejilla. It was so good I went up for seconds!! Don't miss @carnitasramireznyc when you're in the East Village!

I started making my meen moilee recipe, but deviated far enough from the original that I'll call it fish curry instead. I make this recipe so much that I like to throw in something different to keep it interesting!! What ingredient in your pantry ends up in a lot of the dishes that you cook? The vegetables I’m sautéing in the beginning are celery, carrots, and fennel with curry leaves and salt.
