Here is a clear and neutral summary of the Instagram controversy between AbdurRehman Cheema and Arsalan Parahi. Cheema's viewpoint is that when Islam arrived in the region (7th-8th century CE when the Arab conquest of Sindh took place,ancestors of modern day Pakistanis were primarily Buddhist,he emphasizes the rich Buddhist heritage of the area esp in Gandhara( parts of northern Punjab,KP,Taxila,Swat etc) portraying Buddhism as the dominant or defining pre Islamic faith of the local population. Parahi's viewpoint is that Buddhism had already significantly declined in the region long before Islam's arrival,by the period, between 4th and 7th centuries CE, Hindu traditions( or a resurgence of Brahmanical/Hindu practices) had become more prominent or widely followed,he argues that Islam didnot "end" a thriving Buddhist era in what is now Pakistan,instead Buddhism had been weakening for centuries due to earlier factors( such as invasion of Alchon Huns in the 5th-6th centuries,loss of patronage and the arrival of practices under the dynasties like the Gupta and local rulers,by the time,Muslim armies reached Sindh in 711 CE, the religious landscape was more mixed or shifting towards Hindu-influenced traditions in many parts. In short, the disagreement is mainly about the timing and dominance in the centuries immediately before Islam's arrival,one side sees a still Buddhist society before while the other sees a post -Buddhist or (Buddhist declining,Hindu-resurgent) landscape). Historically, the actual picture was complex and regional,Buddhism remained strong in parts of Gandhara and Sindh( as mentioned by Chinese pilgrims like Xuanzang) but it had faced setbacks from Hun invasions and was coexisting/competing with reviving Hindu practices. Neither view is entirely wrong but they emphasize different phases and regions of a diverse religious history .

India doesnot just copy Pakistani music and dramas, it copies the identity of the people behind them,Sanam Saeed gets nominated at an international award ceremony and suddenly she is " South Asian actress", on Indian social media,her Pakistani nationality just quickly disappears. This is pattern not accident,over a hundred documented songs lifted across six decades,drama storylines repackaged for Indian networks,ancient cities on Pakistani soil are often rebranded as "Indian heritage ", the selective use of South Asia only ever applies to talent that is not Indian and only ever comes from one side of the border . Pakistan calls Afghan celebrities Afghan, Indian actors Indians but when it comes to Pakistan they suddenly become "South Asian ".
