What an amazing view and video. Today this small calf of 3–4-days was swept away by the Teesta River near Gajoldoba and found several kilometres downstream. While mother was looking after it. With the timely efforts of the Baikunthapur Forest Division, support from local fishermen, and veterinary care, the calf was safely rescued and reunited with its mother, who immediately accepted and nursed it. Just look at how mother behaved !!

This is what field level #conservation looks like. Monitoring the movement of this #elephant train and blocking highways so that they can pass safely. Sometime saving them from vehicles and sometime form selfie hungry crowd. Kurseong division forest staff at work near Siliguri.

When a routine #drone monitoring captures this beautiful moment in our national #park; a small #rhino calf wallowing under the protection of #mother. Micro drones are used to monitor the #habitat, especially the locations which are remote. Rhino are one of the most vulnerable species, to very well networked poaching groups. Their horns are considered as aphrodisiacs and fetch huge money in international markets. So all kind of measures are adopted to protect them. Micro drones are used at height to monitor and zoom features are used to record. Rhinoceros wallow in mud to cool their massive bodies and protect their sensitive skin from the sun. The mud also acts as a natural shield, helping them get rid of parasites like ticks and biting insects.

This is how heroes look like in real life. See how Akash Kerketta, a forest staff of Kurseong division averted a major accident. Sikkim Mahananda train was coming on Bagdogra-Naxalbari Route. Due to timely intervention of forest staff and train pilots elephant herd was saved.

Hundreds of wildlife articles were burnt at Jaldapara National Park including 105 Rhino Horns by Hon’ble Chief Minister. Joined by Forest Minister. Rhinos are poached for these rhino horns and smuggled internationally. This will certainly send a strong message to smugglers and poachers. Wildlife articles were burnt in full public view and media view on #WorldRhinoDay Wildlife articles have no real value. Don’t buy them.
