A speeding tractor loaded with stones went out of... control and rammed into a paan shop near Patia in Rameshwar village of Una taluka in Gir Somnath district. According to reports, the driver allegedly lost control of the heavily loaded vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the roadside shop at high speed. The entire incident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The footage reportedly shows the tractor speeding uncontrollably before crashing into the shop. The year ends on a heartwarming note for us... at TN Forest Department, as our Foresters united a lost baby elephant with her mother and the herd after rescue in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve at Pollachi. The little calf was found searching for the mother when field teams spotted her. With the help of drones & experienced forest watchers the herd was located and the tiny calf was safely reunited. Teams are still on ground for monitoring. Wow! Send A File By Just The Camera! A... vibe coder used AI to build a file transfer system that sends data between two phones using only a screen and a camera. One phone displays a new type of animated QR codes while the other scans them to rebuild the file, with no Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cables needed. It is fully optical and local. The system uses fountain codes that create each QR frame as a random mix of file data. This keeps transfers working even if some frames are missed, reaching speeds of about 129 KB/s for a 2 MB image. The entire project was built in one night and released as open source. The idea came from a music project where the developer wanted to share MP3 files without streaming or using the same network. Video diffusion models have strong implicit representations of 3D... shape, material, and lighting, but controlling them with language is cumbersome, and control is critical for artists and animators. GenLit connects these implicit representations with a continuous 5D control signal describing the direction and intensity of a point light source. This enables single-image near-field relighting of an image using a video diffusion model. We use a ControlNet-like approach and show that, with a small amount of synthetic data, GenLit generalizes to complex real-world images. Given a single image and the 5D lighting signal, GenLit creates a video of a moving light source that is inside the scene. It moves around and behind scene objects, producing effects such as shading, cast shadows, secularities, and interreflections with a realism that is hard to obtain with traditional inverse rendering methods. GenLit shows that it is possible to get continuous control over implicit physical processes within a video model. I think this is just the beginning and promises to make such models much more practical for creators. The northern sector of Tsavo had been scarred by decades of poaching and limited water resources, and as a result, wild elephants gave it a wide berth. Over the years, working in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service, we helped secure Ithumba and nurtured it into a safe, sustainable habitat. Slowly but surely, the elephants returned. It started with a single bull ‘rafiki’ – and before long, the northern sector of the park transformed into a hub for elephants.
