I joined CNN today to relay Canadians’ bewilderment over the U.S. President’s unprovoked trade attack on our country. For generations, Canada and the United States have built one of the most successful and integrated trading relationships in the world. Tariffs threaten Canadian jobs, but they also disrupt American supply chains and ultimately mean higher costs for U.S. consumers. Canada must stand firm, protect our workers and businesses, and keep fighting for a fair-trade relationship that works for both countries.

Our message is clear: we're making Brampton and Peel Region the most inconvenient place in Canada to commit a crime. We've now successfully installed 50 state-of-the-art 360° cameras across the city, supporting more than 200 police investigations in six months since the first cameras were deployed. By working closely with Peel Regional Police and investing in innovative technology, we're taking a proactive approach to protecting our neighbourhoods, supporting law enforcement and disrupting organized crime.

In the City of Brampton, we proudly acknowledge Tamil Eelam Flag Day. This flag, which unites Tamil nationals of Eelam worldwide, symbolizes their sovereignty and right to self-determination. It serves as a poignant reminder of the immense sacrifices made by the Eelam Tamil community in their struggle for liberation and emancipation. It is also a time to remember the lives lost to the 60 years of the #TamilGenocide. We will continue to stand with the Tamil community in their pursuit of justice & freedom. There is no freedom or equality without justice! #NeverForget

I joined CNN today to discuss Canada-U.S. relations and President Trump’s executive order to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.” 🇨🇦🇺🇸 Here in Canada, we’ll keep calling it Lake Ontario. The name Ontario has Indigenous roots dating back to the 1600s, and when our province was established in 1867, it adopted the name of the Great Lake along its shores. Canada and the United States have built one of the most successful partnerships in the world. We should be building on that relationship with our closest neighbour and partner — not tearing down our economies with tariffs, trade barriers and unnecessary provocations. We are stronger when we work together.

🚔📹 Today, I was proud to announce that the City of Brampton has completed the installation of 360-degree camera technology at 50 intersections across our city — making Brampton the first municipality in Canada to deploy this technology at traffic intersections on this scale. 🇨🇦 🤝 Working in partnership with Peel Regional Police, this innovative technology is helping investigators solve crimes, support victims, and strengthen community safety. Already, these cameras have assisted police in more than 200 investigations involving serious incidents, including violent crime, auto theft, hit-and-runs, and dangerous driving. 🛡️ Our goal is simple: make Brampton the safest city in Canada and the hardest place for criminals to operate. 🙏 Thank you to Deputy Chief Anthony Odoardi of the Peel Regional Police, Genetec Inc., Axis Communications, members of Council and City staff for their partnership and leadership in delivering this important public safety initiative. ✅ Smarter Technology, Safer communities. ✅ Stronger investigations. ✅ Better tools for law enforcement. #Brampton #CommunitySafety #PublicSafety #PeelPolice #SafeCity #Innovation

Yesterday at #Brampton Committee of Council, we unanimously passed a bylaw to ensure that the ability to pray at a place of worship remains sacred and safe from protest-related disruptions. Inspired by similar legislation passed in Vaughan, this bylaw would restrict protests at places of worship. Whether you go to a mandir, a gurdwara, a mosque, a synagogue or a church, everyone deserves the right to pray free from violence, harassment and intimidation.

While Ontario and Canada are working hard together to fight wildfires, President Trump has responded with more threats and punishing tariffs during this difficult time. Real friends don’t threaten you when you’re in crisis — they show up and help. When California was battling devastating fires, Canadians stepped up and offered support like we always do.

Foreign interference impacts us all. As Canadians we must stay united in protecting our communities, and continue building a community that's the envy of the world. To our Sikh residents, and all Bramptonians, we are here to protect your rights and safety here. Our City Council unanimously passed a motion to send a letter of support to the Prime Minister and Federal Government, in regard to respecting the sovereignty of Canada and its citizens, and encourage the Federal Government to work diligently to bring to justice those responsible for the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar; and that correspondence be sent to Peel Regional Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Public Safety Minister, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), and Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to ensure the safety of all Canadians in places of worship.

Organized crime is using modern technology to target families and businesses, while police are often forced to wait weeks for critical digital evidence needed to stop violent crimes and extortion. Bill C-22 would provide law enforcement with modern lawful access tools to help protect residents, prevent more victims, and keep communities safe. Brampton is proud to be home to the Tamil Genocide Memorial at Chinguacousy Park, a symbol of remembrance, the need for justice, and the ongoing push for accountability. We will always stand with our Tamil brothers and sisters in the fight for human rights and against genocide denial.

I was pleased to welcome Justice Minister Sean Fraser to Brampton today to announce that the Bail and Sentencing Reform Act is now the law of the land. For years, Brampton has been calling for stronger bail laws to address repeat violent offending, organized crime, auto theft, extortion, and gun violence. Following the tragic loss of Darian Henderson-Bellman, our city joined police leaders and municipalities across Canada in advocating for meaningful reform that puts public safety first. 🛡️ These changes represent significant progress toward a justice system that better protects victims, holds serious offenders accountable, and helps keep our communities safe. 🤝 Thank you to our federal and provincial partners, Peel Regional Police, and all those who worked tirelessly to advance these reforms. ▶️ Watch today's announcement live from Brampton City Hall. #Brampton #PublicSafety #BailReform

Today, I joined Prime Minister Mark Carney and Chief Nishan Duraiappah for a tour of Peel Regional Police 22 Division to discuss practical steps to enhance public safety in Brampton and across Canada. We unveiled the Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton — a powerful symbol that has been constructed by the National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT) in remembrance of the victims of the Tamil Genocide being committed by the Sri Lankan state. This monument serves as a place for Canadians to come together to commemorate and memorialize the Tamil Genocide. It also allows the Tamil people to share their painful traumatic experiences and to educate others about the Tamil Genocide. Despite various attempts of Tamil Genocide denial and distortion, foreign interference and attempts to silence us by the Sri Lankan state, we stood firm. In Brampton and across Canada, we stand with the Tamil people.
