When we'd spotted workers installing this hoarding, we'd cautioned them it's illegal. They said, they were following orders of the Shakhapramukh Nitin Gawade. Not only did they go ahead and put it up but now there are two! The govt is flouting the law, and the High Court is mute!

Who, in their right minds, would agree to the destruction of Mumbai's coastal guardians? These mangroves are teeming with ecosystems and support the livelihoods of the Kolis. Do you really want a road to replace this divinity?!? 💔😪

At the recently-concluded Mumbai Climate Week, the Minister of Environment, Pankaja Munde, was asked if cutting 45,675 mangroves was justified in the city at highest risk of sea level rise in India. Please listen to her reply. Lack of knowledge is a dangerous thing. As is idiocy.

Even before environmental clearances have been obtained, the BMC has already set the wheels of destruction in motion! Join hands with a citizen-led movement to protect the #mangroves of #Mumbai, which are its last line of defence in a warming world! cc: Amitav Ghosh RichaChadha

Today, 48 trees, host to migratory cranes, were felled for a redevelopment project in Wadala. Troubled residents of the area have approached the Tree Authority. Utterly deplorable how Mumbai's environmental wealth is being plundered by its politicians. Look at the birds. 😥
