Two men who chased a gay couple through north London, spat at them and pelted them with fruit while hurling homophobic abuse have avoided jail, despite being convicted of a hate crime. Mariusz Smietana, 46, and Dariusz Wawrzenczyk, 37, were sentenced at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court after being found guilty of assault by beating over the attack on Alex Grant, 34, and his partner in Gospel Oak, Camden. The court heard the couple were holding hands as they walked home from swimming at the Highgate Men's Ponds on Hampstead Heath, shortly after 10pm on 1 July 2025, when they were targeted on Mansfield Road. Prosecutor René De Silva said the pair approached the couple, spat on their legs and shouted homophobic slurs in Polish. The abuse escalated when Smietana chased the men down the street and threw fruit at them, which CCTV showed he had taken from a nearby shop without paying. In a victim impact statement, Grant described the lasting effect of the attack. "The hate and vitriol we encountered that night has made me realise that even today I am, as a gay man, still vulnerable to violent homophobia," he said. "What had been a quiet summer evening spent enjoying the weather swimming with my boyfriend turned into a night full of fear and angst which lasted for many days afterwards." He said he had ended the night "visibly shaken, restless, and unable to sleep". District Judge Vanessa Lloyd ruled that the offence was aggravated by hostility based on the couple's sexual orientation. "The offence was motivated by or demonstrated hostility based on sexual orientation," she told the court. However, the judge found that the custody threshold had not been crossed, and sentenced both men, who represented themselves with the help of a Polish interpreter, to 12-month community orders. They were also ordered to pay costs. The court heard Smietana, of Wembley, had previously received a caution for shoplifting in 2015.

Trans influencer Jolina Mennen has gone viral after sharing which toilets she felt able to use while visiting the UK. The German content creator, who has been open about her transition for nearly 13 years, reflected on navigating the UK in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling that biological sex, rather than gender identity or a Gender Recognition Certificate, can be the deciding factor for access to single-sex spaces. "As a trans woman, I will always have the utmost respect for women, always," she wrote. "When I am a guest in a country, I want to accept its laws, customs, and views." But, she added, "if we think logically about which restroom would cause more chaos, drama, and confusion, it is surely clear to everyone that I cannot use the men's restroom." She thanked staff at London's O2 Arena, who she said saw it the same way. "Genuine trans people will never deliberately cause problems or make anyone feel uncomfortable," she added. "We know that feeling all too well ourselves."

Gay TikToker Devon Rollins, also known as ‘Baddie Daddy’ is going viral for his relationship with his daughter. Devon says he’s only ever dated women, and was once married to a woman, who he had a baby with, but he realised he was gay and unhappy during his marriage. He then came out to his then-wife, ended their relationship and told his family. But he says his ex-wife has been understanding and supportive and his relationship with both her and their daughter have since blossomed, with them successfully co-parenting. Devon often spoils his daughter, taking her shopping, getting her nails done and buying her flowers, and he often shows off their matching outfits. As he wears makeup, rocks nail looks and stereotypically ‘feminine’ outfits around his daughter too, his content has led to backlash from some people, claiming their relationship is ‘sad’. One user even said, ‘this would confuse me so bad as a child’, to which Devon responded directly saying: “Nah you wouldn't be confused babe, not if you were my child ‘cause I take time to explain things and I’m patient with my child [...] people just wanna be mad at me, y’know disagree with me.”

Patagonia has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Pattie Gonia (Wyn Wiley), an environmentalist drag queen who has raised nearly $4 million for climate nonprofits The outdoor clothing company sued Wiley on January 21 in federal court in Los Angeles, claiming that Wiley's September trademark application to use "Pattie Gonia" for clothing and environmental activism would "irreparably harm" the brand. Patagonia is only seeking $1 in damages plus legal fees, but Wiley has pointed out the real cost: fighting to keep their drag name would rack up thousands in legal fees, money that could go toward environmental causes instead. "This is not a brand conflict," Wiley said in a video posted to Instagram on Wednesday, May 27. "This is a corporation trying to erase an activist. This is how corporations bully individuals who cannot match their resources." Wiley has spent 8 years building a community of over 3 million people, raising almost $4 million for environmental nonprofits. In an open letter to Patagonia's CEO and board, Pattie Gonia questioned the company's commitment to its stated mission: "If Patagonia is 'in business to save the home planet,' why are they suing a climate activist?" The drag queen acknowledged their merch involved "playful parody" of Patagonia but denied ever using the company's branding, logo, or font. "Drag is built on parody, puns and jokes," they noted. Patagonia responded with a statement saying: "Over the past several years, we've tried to find a path forward that would allow Pattie Gonia to continue their work while also protecting the Patagonia trademark… Unfortunately, we could not reach an agreement." The company added: "This matter is not about seeking financial gain, nor is it about challenging anyone's identity or right to advocacy, protest, or creative expression. The last thing we wanted was a legal fight with someone who shares our values." "You are what you do, not what you say you are," The drag queen told Patagonia's founder Yvon Chouinard, referencing his own words about corporate action matching values.

Speaking to The Guardian, Connor said: “It's just nice to see two boys in love.” On filming intimate scenes, he continued: “In a silent room with lots of middle-aged men. A camera right next to your face while you're wearing a c** sock.” Connor's costar, Joe Locke, added: “It would be weird if we hadn't shown it. Just because our show is a more earnest version of a queer representation doesn't mean that sex [shouldn't be shown]. It's still a big thing for anyone in the world.”](https://image.24vids.com/tw-2077411750010339837/media/HNRy9drWsAAt7ra.jpg)
