In the weeks leading up to this awards show, HBO and James Gandolfini were embroiled in a very public and nasty contract negotiation. HBO sued James, calling him "greedy" while James counter sued, calling HBO "leaches and vampires"

Someone stole Tony's Escalade and replaced it with a Jeep, right in front of the FBI

James dated Lynn Jacobson for 2 years in college. Tragically she was killed in a car accident. After her death, James said he was angry and needed a place to express his anger, and felt life was too unpredictable. He decided to follow his dream of acting.

Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa for Sanpellegrino

When Noah's father ordered a bottle of wine in The Sopranos "University" episode, Meadow was impressed, (as was I) thinking it was expensive. Now I know where Noah got his douche bagedness from

Silvio and Tony 😥

In the performing arts, a cameo role or cameo appearance is a short, often non-speaking or minor role played by a famous person, musician, or director. Who's your favorite cameo in The Sopranos?

Things fans would say when they saw a Sopranos actor on the street

Mike Epps talking Sopranos (but it was the 2nd episode, not the 1st, Mike)

It was Sopranos actor Joe Gannascoli's idea to have his character Vito be gay.

They weren't very understanding and tolerant of Vito's new lifestyle

HBO sold rights to broadcast reruns of The Sopranos to commercial cable TV network A&E for $1 million per episode. They did have to edit certain violent scenes and clean up some language though.

Tony Sirico was Paulie Walnuts, or is it Paulie Walnuts was Tony Sirico? Either way, your halfway up the ...ah you get it

James Gandolfini's passion project was HBO's mini series "The Night Of". Not only was he executive producer but he filmed the pilot episode in 2012 (the last thing he filmed). 3 years after his passing, John Turturro took over as lead. Riz Ahmed won the Emmy for his role.

Joe Rogan and Tony Hinchcliffe talk Sopranos

I highly recommend the HBO 8 part mini-series "The Night Of". John Turturro took over the lead after the passing of James Gandolfini. The mini series won 5 Primetime Emmys. Here he is with his cousin Aida and Sopranos' Max Casella.

During a scene for 1995's "Crimson Tide" James Gandolfini grabbed Denzel Washington too "aggressively", causing Denzel to storm off the set and threaten never to work with James again. James quickly apologized, and they ended up doing 2 more movies, including 1998's "Fallen"

Little by little, James Gandolfini expanded his acting prowess. Early on, small roles but when he was on screen, you noticed. Here's 2 roles from 1993 showing his range and growth.

John Travolta's dad owned a tire shop in Bergen County NJ and James Gandolfini's father bought tires from him. James would see John's photos at the shop and thought he'd give acting a try. John Travolta and James Gandolfini ended up appearing in 5 movies together.

Shane Gillis and Jamie Lynn Sigler in a season 3 episode of "Tires" (2026)

Happy 420 from AJ Soprano!

On this date in 1997, The Sopranos began shooting their pilot episode.
