Earlier today I arrived at the Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan, for a Working Visit aimed at reaffirming the strong cooperation between South Africa and Japan in areas of mutual interest. The two countries enjoy well established diplomatic relations, and the year 2025 marks 115 years of such relations. Throughout this visit myself and a delegation of Ministers will participate in various meetings with senior government officials - including the Prime Minister of Japan Mr. Ishiba Shigeru, various Japanese entities and partners as well as business leaders. I am accompanied on this trip by the Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms. Tandi Moraka; the Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Mr. Gayton McKenzie; the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane; the Minister of Agriculture Mr. John Steenhuisen; the Minister of Trade Industry and Competition, Mr. Parks Tau; and the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ms. Nomalungelo Gina. 🇿🇦 🇯🇵

Today my delegation and I began the three-day Working Visit in Tokyo, Japan, by visiting the Isuzu Fujisawa Plant Service. Isuzu Motors South Africa is Isuzu's first fully owned plant outside Japan, and the Struandale plant in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province, produces about 28 500 vehicles per annum, contributing to its overall sales and market presence. We also met with Dr Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), where we discussed our existing partnerships in health, education, science technology and innovation and agriculture. Japan is a key economic and technical cooperation partner of South Africa through JICA, and this visit sought to strengthen and expand our partnership. 🇿🇦 🇯🇵 #EconomicDiplomacy #SAinJapan
