In my view this is one of, if not THE goal of the World Cup. Just 5 minutes earlier he gave up on the opportunity to take a penalty which had he stored would have made him England’s greatest World Cup goal scorer. He sacrificed that opportunity, in order for his teammate Bukayo Saka to score a hat trick, which he did. He then went on to deliver a masterclass in sublime ball control culminating in this brilliant goal to make it 6 - 4 to England against France. Sometimes the good guys DO win. I am incandescent with rage right now. I feel sick to the stomach. A US Vice President stood today on the soil of where so many Americans gave their lives to defeat fascism in Europe. He delivered a disgraceful speech that spat on their graves. Not that we should expect any different, given his boss skipped visiting the graves of fallen Americans in Europe for fear of getting his hair wet. The same man who called the same fallen heroes suckers and losers. As a Brit that loves America and the American people, I am deeply disturbed at the insults delivered by a man who once described Donald Trump as an “idiot" and said he was "reprehensible." Privately, comparing him to Adolf Hitler. How times have changed. Vance is now part of the most authoritarian administration in American history. An administration actively seeking to deny bodily autonomy to women. An administration pursuing the same mass deportation of immigrants that Europe witnessed in 1930s Germany. Vance is a man that his own president doesn’t even see as his successor. He came to Europe to vomit his Christo-fascist bile on leaders from the UK and across Europe, in what appears to be a retribution tour designed to assert American power. The U.S. are to my knowledge the only NATO country to have invoked Article 5 of the NATO charter after 9/11. We, his European allies, met that call with no questions asked. We sent thousands of soldiers to the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq to fight a war on the false premise of Donald Rumsfeld’s ‘known unknowns’. We did this despite millions of our own citizens protesting in the streets of our cities. Our military stood shoulder to shoulder with his military and we, like many Americans, stood to salute our fallen young men and women returning home day after day. I have tears in my eyes as I write this, thinking of them and their loved ones. Our brave men and women willingly gave their all and far too many made the ultimate sacrifice in support of an American led war. For the record, 6000 Ukrainian solders server alongside American soldiers in Iraq. This, despite Ukraine not being a member of NATO. In 1994 upon signing the Budapest Memorandum they gave up their nuclear weapons in return for security assurances from the US and the UK. These were then reneged upon in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea. They were told ‘An assurance is not a guarantee’. Now, despite their friendship and their brave sacrifice on the battlefields of Ukraine, the President of the United States has decided to abandon them and hand a victory to an indicted war criminal, who illegally invaded the sovereign territory of a US ally. An ally who’s soldiers had previously lost their lives supporting America in its war on terror. SHAME ON HIM. Shame on the man who dodged the draft and never served a day in defense of his nation. He is a coward and I would gladly call him that to his face. To all those Americans on social media currently posting vile insults to those who have always been there for America, I say, democracy is bigger than you, as you sit anonymously behind your phones posting poison. America might have the most powerful army on the planet, but remember, that same army fled from Saigon after being handed their ass by a bunch of peasant rice farmers, armed with grenades made from discarded US coke cans. Ukraine have been to the Russian army what the Vietnamese were to you and we salute them. You might want to throw Ukraine under the bus while stealing there mineral deposits, BUT EUROPE WILL NOT ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN. I know for sure that the UK will not abandon the Ukrainian people. Our aid to GDP contribution already exceeds that of the US as does Poland, Germany Finland and others. The U.S. is no longer a reliable ally and if need be, we will stand with Ukraine without America. As for your pathetic tariffs, do your worst. You will soon have no friends but thugs and autocrats, so I’m sure Wun Dum Fuc will be right at home.

The most efficient manufacturing nation on earth has now officially joined the party BIG TIME. I am so proud of our German friends. They are creating a €500 billion ($536 billion) infrastructure fund in a tectonic spending shift to revamp the military and revive growth in Europe’s largest economy. And this is just for Germany. This decision to develop its economy around defence manufacturing will not only boost defence capabilities, it will turbocharge the economy in the mid term. I cannot tell you just how significant this speech is by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission. Europe is in my view about to call Trump’s bluff and I really don’t think Americans understand just how catastrophically damaging this could be in terms of long term economic impact. Europe has had enough, as have NATO allies. Trump is about to burn 75 years of close partnerships to satisfy his pathetic ego. I remember saying at the time when Canada elected Mark Carney that they hit the jackpot. Canada could not have a better leader navigating Canada through these Trump temper tantrum’s. Trump is simply not in the same league either intellectually or politically. He’s just a lump of lard, competing against a geopolitical athlete. I’ve had the usual detractors piling in, as expected when the right are attempting to make dumb the new smart, but rest assured. The loser in this WILL be Trump. He’s overplaying his hand yet again, at a time when Carney is spreading Canada’s wings to develop better more profitable global opportunities, while reducing dependence on the US. We often hear passionate emotional speeches and I applaud that, but this is a forensic dismantling of a woman who arrogantly thinks she and the administration she belongs to are above the law. Let me make this absolutely clear. Last night bombers took off, drones were launched and missiles were fired from Russia. Ukrainian air defences knew they were coming, but had no idea what their targets were, because the President of the United States prohibited vital intelligence to be shared with battlefield commanders. Last night Donald Trump actively assisted an indicted war criminal to murder Ukrainian civilians. America’s president is now a MURDERER as well as a convicted felon. I’m sure Putin will present him with a medal when he visits Moscow.

I listened to the President of the United States use the murder of someone who played a significant role in helping him win the White House to anoint Charlie Kirk a political martyr. It was no coincidence that his death was announced not by a doctor at the hospital or a spokesperson of the family or Turning Point USA. If you have seen the footage of the shooting (which I would not advise), you will have seen there is little doubt he died within minutes at the scene. The announcement of his death was a politically choreographed moment in which Trump could simply not pass up the opportunity for him to be centre of attention. It sickens me that this is what America has become. The people deserve better. As I stated in my post following the shooting there is not one single point on which I agreed with Charlie Kirk, but nobody deserves to be murdered for their political beliefs. I found him morally repugnant. A peddler of misogyny, homophobia and an unapologetic racist who spent his time attempting to poison the minds of young people with his white Christian Nationalist views that are antithetical to Christian teachings. Despite my opinion of him, he did not deserve to die for the beliefs he held and I would fight to defend his right to hold them. He has left behind a wife and 2 small children whose last memory of their father should not be a gaping hole in his neck emptying his life in an ocean of blood on the ground. Nobody deserves that. He fervently believed that the numerous gun deaths in America each year were an acceptable price for the preservation of the second amendment and in a twist of irony he became a martyr to that cause NOT the America that Trump is creating and he painted in his disgusting address to the nation. The flag outside the White House flew at half mast not out of respect, but as an act of performative politics. Let’s not forget that a couple of weeks ago, two young children died while they prayed in a Minnesota catholic church. There were no half mast flags to mark their passing because they held no political value. It is likely there will be acts of retribution as we see right wing politicians and talking heads stoking the fires of political violence. I’m sure Trump is already planning to maximise the political value of Kirk’s death with a made for TV funeral event to cement his martyrdom. These are dark times. I will not shed a tear for Charlie Kirk. America will be subjected to slightly less Christian Nationalist propaganda with his passing. I’ll leave you with his own words in the hope that when he met his maker he didn’t have to attempt to debate his way into heaven, because he may find St Peter quoted him Matthew 25:40 ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.

The great thing about having Mark Carney as a leader is his decades of understanding economics within a geopolitical framework. He understands, unlike Wun Dum Fuc, that the US extortion strategy is ultimately self-defeating and that while threats make headlines, pragmatic acceptance of the need to adapt is the key that opens doors for Canadian prosperity. Carney has embraced the need for Canada to extend its economic horizons and work towards deeper more resilient and reliable partnerships across the world.
