I hosted the Anioma community in Abuja, including both active and retired public and civil servants, for an interactive session on constituency issues on Saturday, June 15, 2024. While I frequently visit home to engage with most of my constituents, I recognized the need to connect with those residing in Abuja and its environs. The event aimed to help them understand my duties and the services I owe them as their senator, make them aware that I am very much reachable, and also seek input from them to better address their needs and concerns. We discussed and shared ideas on various constituency matters, particularly the creation of Anioma state. The overwhelming affirmative voice vote for Anioma state demonstrated its importance to every son and daughter of Anioma descent. This is a cause to which I am fully committed.

At the Igbo Unification Movement in Okpanam, I reaffirmed a truth that history cannot erase. The time has come for us to fully embrace our true identity, stand shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters across the Niger, and reclaim the dignity that was once distorted by war and survival. This is not about politics or personal ambition. It is about justice, fairness, and correcting historical imbalances. My dream remains clear — the creation of Anioma State, with Asaba as its capital, where an Ndokwa son or daughter can one day become governor. We cannot shy away from who we are. Just as a Chinese man remains Chinese anywhere in the world, so must Anioma proudly rise its identity. I must commend the Igbo Unification Movement and Ndi na Asu Bia for their courage and consistency in championing this cause. Their work is helping our people reconnect with history and identity.

In January 2020, I undertook an expedition to the South Pole in Antarctica, the coldest and most remote region on Earth, where temperatures is –100°C. I went not in search of adventure, but in pursuit of purpose. I became the first Black African to undertake an expedition to the South Pole in Antarctica, and on that vast frozen expanse, I hoisted the Nigerian flag as a symbol of national pride and global responsibility. It was a clear statement that Africa must be present and heard in the conversations that shape our shared future. From a continent where malaria cannot survive, I drew global attention to a disease that continues to devastate Africa. Malaria is preventable, treatable, and eradicable, yet it still claims hundreds of thousands of lives every year, particularly among children and pregnant women. This is not a failure of science. It is a failure of collective commitment. The symbolism of Antarctica was deliberate. If humanity can reach and endure the harshest environment on Earth, then it can summon the will to end a disease that has held Africa back for generations. Malaria is not merely a health issue. It is an economic, social, and developmental burden that undermines productivity and limits opportunity. Beyond advocacy, this commitment is being translated into law. My bill for the establishment of an agency responsible for the eradication of malaria has successfully gone through the Senate’s first reading, second reading, and public hearing. We now await the third reading and the concurrence of the House of Representatives, after which the bill will be transmitted to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for assent. This proposed agency is designed to focus solely on doing all that is necessary to eradicate malaria. With the right structures, sustained funding, scientific innovation, and political will, malaria eradication is achievable. The fight against malaria knows no borders. Until it is defeated everywhere, the work remains unfinished.
