Since 2014, the ISIS Prisons Museum has undertaken a meticulous process of documenting the mass graves left behind by ISIS following the Shaitat massacre in rural Deir ez-Zor.This documentation is based on survivor testimonies, accounts from victims' families, and visual materials that chronicle one of the largest mass killings in Syria. In parallel, the museum has developed an extensive database identifying grave sites discovered between 2014 and 2020, while gathering data on the victims and their identities. Despite the passage of time and the accumulation of archived materials, the need remains urgent to continue the research and expand efforts to protect these sites—many of which may still hold crucial evidence concerning this atrocity

Imran Qaresli is a former detainee in ISI*S prisons. He was arrested in the Syrian city of #Manbij on charges of possessing weapons. He was later released in a prisoner exchange after being informed that he was going to be executed. Following his first escape, ISI*S deceived him into believing that surrendering would lead to his release along with his brother. Instead, he endured three years of detention, moving between several prisons where he faced the harshest forms of tortur*e, particularly in the #Stadium_Prison in #Raqqa. Imran's testimony, along with others documented by the #ISISPrisonsMuseum, sheds light on the extent of the crimes and violations committed by ISI*S. في العام 2017، اعتقل تنظيم داعـ.ـش أحمد عبد القادر رجب من منزله في الموصل، حيث أمضى 35 يوماً في سجن الميدان التابع لجهاز "الحسبة". خلال جولته في غرفة التعذيب، يستذكر أحمد كيف نسيه السجّانون معلّقاً في السقف من الساعة الثامنة مساءً حتى السادسة صباحاً، حتى اضطر للاعتراف بتهم لم يرتكبها. وخرج بعد أن حكم القاضي عليه بحرق سيارته وجلده أمام الناس 300 جلدة، ودفع غرامة مالية. شهادته واحدة من سلسلة شهادات وثّقها متحف سجون داعش ضمن ملف موسّع عن "ديوان الحسبة"، حيث تكشف الشهادات، إلى جانب الوثائق والمسح الميداني، كيف تحكّم هذا الجهاز بتفاصيل حياة الناس اليومية. للاطلاع على شهادة أحمد وشهادات أخرى، زوروا موقع متحف سجون داعش عبر الرابط في البايو. In 2017, ISIS arrested Ahmad Abdelqader Rajab at his home in Mosul. He spent 35 days in the Meydan House Prison, which was run by the group’s Hisba Diwan (morality police). During a visit to the torture room, Ahmad recalls how guards once left him hanging from the ceiling from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. By morning, he was forced to confess to crimes he hadn’t committed. A judge sentenced him to the burning of his car, 300 public lashes, and a heavy fine. His testimony is one of many documented by the ISIS Prisons Museum as part of a broader investigation into the Hisba Diwan. These testimonies, along with original documents and field research, reveal how the Hisba Diwan controlled even the smallest details of daily life. ISIS controlled the Ahdath Prison in #Mosul for 46 days, transforming the facility into one of its most feared prisons. During that time, ISIS subjected hundreds of locals to systematic torture, and some were forcibly disappeared. Testimonies from former prisoners interviewed by the ISIS Prisons Museum provide details of the brutal torture methods employed by ISIS jailers. Additionally, footage and documents obtained by the IPM reveal structural changes made to the prison during ISIS control.

خلّفت المجـ.ـزرة التي ارتكبها داعـ.ـش عام 2014 بحق أبناء عشيرة الشعيطات في ريف دير الزور جراحاً عميقة ما زالت آثارها حاضرة في ذاكرة ذوي الضحايا. متحف سجون داعش وثّق 12 شهادة صوتيّة- بين عامي 2021 و2024- لنساء كنّ زوجات أو أمهات أو شقيقات بعض ضحايا العشيرة. في هذه الشهادات، تروي السيدات كيف عشن أيام الحصار والاعتقالات والنزوح، وما تلا ذلك من اكتشاف للمقابر الجماعية. شكّلت تلك الشهادات مصدراً أساسياً لفهم سياقات المجـ.ـزرة وتسلسل أحداثها، من لحظة دخول التنظيم إلى قرى الشعيطات، حتى عودة الأهالي واكتشافهم حجم الفاجعة.

بعد أكثر من عقد على #مجزرة_الشعيطات التي ارتكبها "داعـ.ـش" في ريف دير الزور شرقي سوريا، يفتح "متحف سجون داعش" ملفاً يوثّق أبعاد واحدة من أكبر أحداث القتل الجماعي في #سوريا، والتي راح ضحيتها المئات من أبناء العشيرة. يستعرض الملف انتهاكات واسعة شملت الاعتقالات والتعذيب في عشرات السجون التي خصصها التنظيم لأبناء #الشعيطات. كما يقدّم جولات افتراضية وشهادات صوتية ومرئية للناجين وعائلات الضحايا، إضافة إلى قوائم بأسماء الضحايا ومواقع المقابر الجماعية التي اكتشفت تباعاً. يهدف المتحف من خلال هذا التوثيق إلى حفظ الذاكرة الجماعية وتعزيز جهود العدالة، وتسليط الضوء أيضاً على حجم المأساة وأهمية محاسبة الجناة.

In 2014, thousands of Yazidi women and girls were abducted by ISIS and subjected to sexual slavery and enslavement. Their fate changed within hours as they were separated from their families, sold as servants, or distributed among the group’s fighters — in one of the most horrific war crimes in recent history. The ISIS Prisons Museum is working to document these violations in an extensive upcoming file. The project will include recorded video and audio testimonies from survivors, as well as investigations and 3D tours, as part of ongoing efforts to preserve collective memory and support justice and accountability.

In 2015, ISIS seized a commercial and residential building in the town of Abu Hamam in Deir ez-Zor and turned it into a security prison, which it used to detain and torture members of the Shaitat clan. Dozens of detainees disappeared in the prison. This was part of the massacre committed by ISIS against the clan, which resulted in more than 814 deaths and hundreds of missing persons who were buried in mass graves. ‘The ISIS Prisons Museum documented the prison through audio testimonies of former detainees, along with an architectural and forensic analysis of the building and a 3D reconstruction to provide a deeper understanding of the violations committed inside.

Survivors of Sednaya recall their first moments in the prison, from the narrow entrance where they were beaten and insulted to the cages where they were forced to strip and hand over their papers. Interviewed by the Syria Prisons Museum, the survivors speak of the infamous doctor known as “the butcher”, the solitary and group cells where they spent their first days with little food or water, surrounded by rats and sewage. These testimonies form part of an investigation prepared by the Museum, combining 3D tours, documents, and research to record the violations committed in the prison, keep the memory of the victims alive, and support efforts to hold perpetrators accountable.
