My Dad’s 90th birthday was not only a wonderful celebration of him & his life, especially with our very special mum Jenny, but also provided me with a chance to say thank you both to him & Mum and all my very close extended family and friends. My Dad was one of 10 brothers & sisters who grew up on a country farm in Bridgenorth (which until very recently, Jim Finlay & I still often rode our bikes past) and then when they grew up to adults mostly lived within a few kilometres of each other in outer Launceston. I have great memories of my time as a child especially the fun, learning and friendships I had with an amazing group of family & friends. Soon after being Head Prefects in partnership with my very close cousin and one of my best friends Maree (Apted) at the local Riverside High School, when I was 18yo I left town to go to the University of Tasmania in Hobart to study medicine. Whilst this move has provided me with many opportunities to contribute in medicine and to people around the world, I don’t reckon I could have done this in the same successful way if not for the incredible first 18 years of my life. We were a very close large family and enjoyed amazing activities. This ensured great fun, friendships, working as a brilliant team and valuing everyone’s contributions that ultimately lead to greater fun & success! Thank you dear Scolyer family, I could not have had such a fun & successful life it it wasn’t for you all!!! Thank you! (PS. There are plenty of pictures of me and my cousins back in the older days in previous posts.) Allen & Unwin Garry Maddox Sydney Local Health District University of Tasmania #Brainstorm #glioblastoma
