Witness F subsequently reversed his statement, stating that he had saved the Nephew's contact information under the designation "DD Mabuza." When requested to disclose the nephew's identity, Witness F stated an inability to do so due to ongoing family disagreements (In Mabuza Family) The individual identified is Sphiwe Mabuza.

The Defenders of the People organization has distanced itself from the clip, saying it doesn't know the person speaking in the clip and they will try authenticate the clip. The person in the clip is believed to be Rufus Mphahlele; a councillor and a Section 79 Chairperson in the City of Tshwane. A source inside DOP says the clip is from an "internal meeting and that the president was just trying to motivate leaders that they must pull up their socks." Wessie alleges they met Cele on the 12th of July 2020. Wessie adds that Cele promised to have their matter investigated but nothing happened.
