A lot of people were down on Bryce Cain—myself included. Signed as a 4-star WR, so a Yr 3 switch to DB felt like the writing was on the wall. Small sample size vs. Baylor, but between his ST energy & that 25-yd reverse, he proved the doubters wrong. Even if one of them was me.

![Redshirt freshman DL Darrion Smith (#44) has turned out to be a huge addition after Auburn flipped him from Tennessee in ‘24. He is developing into a game-changer largely due to his strong hands and quick twitch ability along the front. Smith gave the Baylor OL fits in limited action and caught Coach Hugh Freeze’s eye after registering a couple QB hurries on Sawyer Robertson. “We probably should have played [Darrion Smith] more,” Freeze said. “His production -- now, he was fresh -- but his production at the end, he was a factor. He was harassing the quarterback pretty well. And so, I thought he made the most of his opportunities, which ultimately should lead to more opportunities now.” The St. Frances Academy (MD) to Auburn pipeline is already paying off. The Tigers currently have three St. Frances alumni on the roster in the aforementioned Smith, and true freshmen CB Blake Woodby and LB Bryce Deas.
