Russell Westbrook getting Michael B Jordan to narrate his retirement video is such a flex. Also a flex: being a first-ballot Hall of Famer who did it 100% his way, for 18(!) years. Russ's approach didn't sit well with everyone - but it was always genuine. After all, Why Not?

The juiciest story of the NFL trade deadline? That the Titans reportedly wouldn’t trade with the Patriots yesterday at the NFL trade deadline because…Tennessee’s owner had ill will about the end of Coach Mike Vrabel’s tenure there. The Patriots had been interested in RB Tony Pollard and edge rusher Adrian Key, according to those reports. Herd w/Colin Cowherd

Goosebumps as the original anthem singer from the the Saints 'Domecoming Game' after Hurricane Katrina opens the festivities on tonight's 20-year anniversary. Getting to be on the field for that original game is a truly special moment I'll remember forever, along with the months of reporting we did on-site, leading up to that moment. We saw resilience in so many places, and we still do in a city that's one of my favorites in the entire world.

The horror for any of us who were at Ground Zero in the hours after the 9/11 attacks was when we realized it was a recovery mission instead of a rescue. There weren’t a mass of survivors among the rubble. Just bodies, and body parts. Every once in a while, one of the fire chiefs would either blow a whistle, or yell “quiet!” and everyone would be silent for a minute or two, in the hopes of hearing someone asking for help. We never heard anyone. It was crushing to be looking at all this death - the worst of what humanity could do - but also it was such an honor to be able to tell the stories of some of the best of humanity, that I saw among the rescuers. At the time, I was a reporter working in the New York bureau of the Washington Post, and I was never the same after that day. Neither was New York City. 💔 Big thank you to ElexMichaelson and The Story Is for such beautiful coverage remembering such an important moment in American history.

Let’s be honest, LeBron’s 18-year streak of double digit games largely ended because he went 4-for-17 from the floor and 0-5 from three in the Lakers win over Toronto. But he still could have salvaged it in the final seconds - instead he stayed true to his roots and passed to a teammate with a better look. A fitting way for him to put an exclamation point on an incredible record that’s going to be nearly impossible to break.

My favorite Bill Walton experience: when he came to visit us at The Jump, saw a framed photo we had on set of Bill Russell (his favorite player), and simply walked over, grabbed it - and took it home. The whole thing was absolutely delightful. What a force; he will be so missed

Can it really be ring-chasing if you already have four rings?? Or if you joining the team is *the reason* they become a title contender? As we heard from LeBron after the Olympics, what he’s actually chasing is the chance to play for big-time stakes again.

Bad teams don’t tank because they are dying to lose for six months straight, alienate fans and create bad habits for their young players. They do it because they have to – the NBA just doesn’t give bad teams a lot of avenues to get better. And a number of the “tanking solutions” that have been proposed would actually make it even HARDER for bad teams to climb out of the bottom of the standings. Flatten the lottery odds? So you’re proposing giving good teams a *better* chance to get the best rookies and bad teams a *worse* chance than they have now? Yeah, that’s bad for the league, bad for fans, bad for players. The NBA needs to focus on creating more pathways to improve, so tanking isn’t the only way - and in my opinion that means holding bad owners accountable too.
