You don't usually see God's name sanctified on Jimmy Kimmel. In a Jimmy Kimmel Live segment, a man in a SpongeBob costume falls on Hollywood Boulevard. For nearly seven minutes, passersby ignore him. Then, Orthodox Jewish yeshiva students kindly help him up, embodying chesed (kindness) and creating a profound Kiddush Hashem by publicly sanctifying God's name through their selfless act.

In my past, I'd have written a very critical post, but now I'm just asking my Chabad friends to explain these videos to me. These scenes take place in 770, Chabad world headquarters, over the Sukkot festival. In the first video, the people are clearing a path, even sweeping it for cleanliness, for the Lubavitcher Rebbi to go up to get an aliya to the Torah. In the second video, the Chabad Chassidim are going up to the Lubavitcher Rebbi's table to get an imaginary cup of Havdalah wine. The Lubavitcher Rebbi died on June 12, 1994. He can't go up for an aliya to the Torah, he can't recite Havdalah, and he can't give out cups of wine. What are these people doing and how can this be considered Torah observant Judaism?
