The Hug of a Hyena: A Warning to the Kinshasa Opposition Before the tragedy, there is a warm embrace; after it, nothing but crushed bones. There is an old, cautionary fable about a man who carried a hyena on his back wherever he went. Seeing this, a passerby stopped him and warned, "My friend, put that beast down. One day, that hyena will make you its lunch." The man ignored the advice and kept walking. A second man approached him with the exact same warning. Again, the man brushed it off, confident in his bond with the predator. Eventually, curiosity got the better of the man. He turned to the beast on his back and said, "Hey, my friend, people keep telling me that you are going to eat me. Is it true?" The hyena, at least, was brutally honest. It whispered into his ear: "You should always fear a threat that two or three men have already warned you about." Before the man could even process the words, it was too late. The hyena gave him no time to think, snapping its jaws shut. This fable perfectly illustrates the fatal mistake of forming an alliance with Félix Tshisekedi. He is political death on legs. It is tragic to watch the opposition in Kinshasa place their faith in a man who is ready to sell out the entire country, and himself along with it, just to retain the presidency. Having tasted the luxury of flying across the world millions of times, he has absolutely no intention of ever going back to a normal life. The political diagnosis is clear: the only cure for the nation is his absolute removal from that office. And for many, the only viable path left to achieve that is through the AFC-M23, for DRC to be at Peace.

With all due respect, statements referring to “all parties” in the Mushaki tragedy risk obscuring the reality on the ground. The drone that struck Mushaki did not belong to “all parties.” It was launched by the Kinshasa regime against a densely populated civilian area, located hundreds of kilometers away from the frontline. When civilians are killed, clarity matters. Accountability begins with accurately identifying those responsible. Vague language, even when well-intentioned, can unintentionally embolden further attacks and deepen the suffering of innocent populations. Yesterday alone, at least 47 lives were changed forever. Families lost loved ones, civilians were terrorized, and entire communities were left traumatized. Such grave violations cannot be reduced to generalized statements. They must be firmly and consistently addressed with the seriousness they deserve. If the international community is truly committed to protecting civilians and advancing peace, then the truth must be spoken plainly and consistently. Sustainable dialogue and genuine de-escalation can only be built on honesty, justice, and accountability.

The people of Masisi, long tormented by impassable roads, will no longer spend days struggling to survive journeys that should take hours. At the same time, Goma is experiencing a renaissance. Water now flows across the city where, not long ago, people endured weeks—even months—without it. Those once responsible for public services profited from the population’s misery by selling water from tankers. That chapter is closing. Today, water is a right, not a privilege. Electricity is stable and reliable. Since the departure of the Kinshasa regime, blackouts have become a thing of the past. Cleanliness now defines the city, greeting every visitor with a sense of pride and order that was once unimaginable. Security has improved drastically. Goma is now 99% safe, even in the face of challenges created by the reckless distribution of weapons and cash by the previous regime. Our security forces have refused to rest—they work tirelessly to safeguard the people. Areas like Ndosho, once gripped by fear and sleepless nights, now stand as symbols of the peace and stability brought by AFC/M23. Banks are open and functioning, with plans already in motion to extend banking services to rural communities. In the countryside, food is so abundant that the leadership is now focused on opening up larger markets to prevent the surplus from going to waste. All of this has been achieved in less than three months—through leadership rooted in unity, diversity, equity, inclusion, gender equality, and equal opportunities for all children. Imagine what will be achieved in five years! The era of poor leadership is fading like smoke. In its place, the people of North Kivu are witnessing real progress, restored dignity, and renewed hope in the liberated areas. What Kinshasa failed to deliver for decades is now being done—with purpose, transparency, and results.
