An Israeli soldier who raped a Palestinian prisoner alongside other soldiers appeared on Israeli channel 14 to defend his unit that committed the rape. The incident sparked outrage as it was filmed on CCTV cameras and spread to the media. The incident happened in the Sde Teiman detention center, where several reports have revealed the brutal condition and systematic torture, including rape, electric shocks, and starvation against Palestinian prisoners. The incident has sparked an outrage in Israel, mainly for initiating an investigation and questioning the soldiers but not for the rape itself. Israelis, including politicians and reserve soldiers, have even taken a step ahead, storming a military base to protest the investigation and release the soldiers, simply protesting the soldiers’ rights of raping prisoners.

🟡 HAPPENING NOW: Police are cracking down on protests in Jakarta and other parts of Indonesia, where people are demanding the repeal of a controversial military law. In the capital, crowds have once again gathered outside the national parliament. Reports say officers have searched and disbanded street medics and damaged medical supplies. Water cannons were used against demonstrators. Protesters also report that plainclothes intelligence agents are carrying firearms. Police have begun dispersing the crowd, arresting several people as tensions escalate. The law, passed behind closed doors, allows active-duty military officers to hold civilian posts across key state institutions.

Indigenous protesters smeared red urucum seed paste on the faces of business leaders who are pushing for the construction of a railway in the Amazon that will destroy the environment for numerous communities. At a public consultation event, these business leaders had come to endorse the Ferrogrão railway, which will cause environmental damage affecting fourteen Indigenous communities in the Amazon. Representatives from each of those communities came to voice their opposition. Brazil’s Ministry of Transport will make the final decision. However, it comes just as there’s growing concern about climate disaster following the deadly floods in Rio Grande do Sul, a region bordering Uruguay, where over 100 people have died and well over 100,000 have been displaced.

Hundreds of Indonesian university students stormed a refugee shelter, forcefully evicting Rohingya refugees and demanding their immediate deportation. Footage showed Rohingya women and children being forced to sit on the ground in tears. At the same time, the mob trampled over their belongings and attempted to attack them. The students forced the 137 Rohingya refugees out of the temporary shelter and onto trucks ready to be deported. The storming of the refugee shelter in the city of Banda Aceh marks just the latest incident in a string of attacks against the persecuted minority from Myanmar seeking refuge in Indonesia. The UN said that the attack was the result of a coordinated online campaign of misinformation and hate speech, as many residents claim the refugees take scarce resources and come into conflict with locals. More than 1,500 Rohingya refugees have arrived on the shores of Aceh since mid-November in what the UN says is their most significant influx in eight years. Anti-Rohingya sentiment escalated in 2017 when the Muslim Rohingya population in Myanmar was the target of a genocide by the Myanmar military. The military killed more than 25,000 Rohingyas and forced over 700,000 to flee their homeland, with many seeking refuge in neighboring countries such as Bangladesh and India. With anti-Rohingya violence intensifying in those countries, many attempt deadly sea journeys to Malaysia and Indonesia, where they’re frequently met with the same discrimination. As a result of ongoing persecution in Myanmar and anti-Rohingya sentiment growing across the region, many remain terrified and traumatized. The dire situation for the stateless Rohingya people leaves one to ask if they are the most persecuted minority in the world, as they are often described.

Nazi symbols filled Paris as 1,000 masked neo-fascists marched under police protection. The event was court-approved. Antifascists were banned, beaten, and blocked — while marchers defied mask laws and flaunted fascist insignia without consequence.

Disturbing footage showing police violence against two unarmed Black men in Madrid has gone viral on Spanish social media. This has sparked widespread outcry and calls for an investigation into the alleged racist police actions. In the video, a police officer is seen repeatedly hitting a man on the ground with a baton. He then forcefully knocks down a second young person standing nearby with punches and grabs to the throat. Official police statements tried to justify the violence by saying the two men were "undermining authority." Local media outlets report that the two victims are actively involved in local charity groups. In response to the police violence caught on video, protests broke out in Lavapiés plaza on Sunday. Protesters demanded investigations, accountability, and an end to racist police violence. These protests, along with the work of anti-racist groups and left-wing political parties, pressured the Ministry of the Interior to start investigations into the case. Madrid's right-wing mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has shown support for the police after the incident.

Thousands of workers at Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest chip maker and Korea’s biggest company, have launched an indefinite strike. Originally planned as a three-day action, the strike has extended indefinitely after management refused to engage in talks with the workers. So far, over 6,540 members of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), the largest union at Samsung Electronics, have participated in the strike. The union represents about 30,000 workers, or 24% of all Samsung employees. The union’s demands include a 5.6% basic pay raise for all members, a guaranteed day off on the union’s founding day, and compensation for economic losses due to the strike. Despite Samsung’s claims that the strike has not impacted production, the union reports disruptions on chip lines and that some equipment is running slower.

Police have joined anti-austerity protesters in the province of Misiones, Argentina. Officers are now on strike, and Milei's “libertarian” government has had to send federal agents from the capital to try to keep order. Misiones is a strategic province bordering both Brazil and Paraguay. The protests began as a teachers’ strike against low pay and inflation. The police then refused orders to repress the population and instead joined them, citing their own low pay as the reason. A police mutiny is illegal, and if it spreads to other regions, it would be a threat to Milei's power. Numerous Latin American countries have seen a coup result from police mutinies, such as Bolivia in 2019 and Ecuador in 2010.

Israel is still more humane than the Palestinians, even when raping them. At least, this is what this German politician of the Free Democratic Party says in the latest edition of “Sick and Racist German Politicians.” According to this woman, Israel being a “constitutional state” makes all its war crimes, whatever they may be, “more humane.” She can frequently be seen protesting against Palestinians on Berlin’s streets.
