They said photography wasn’t art. They said cinema wasn’t art. They said video games weren’t art. Now they say AI arts/digital art isn’t art. I’ve spent over a decade with my studio team turning millions of data points into living, breathing artwork experiences ethically — at MoMA, at the Guggenheim, at the Venice Biennale. Not because a machine told me what to create, but because I had a vision that no traditional tool could realize. Denying all AI technologies as an artistic medium doesn’t protect art. It limits it. The artists who embrace new tools don’t replace the old masters — they join them. Art is not defined by the brush. It’s defined by the intention, the emotion, and the courage to see the world differently.

Dear friends, I’m deeply honored to announce that our artwork Unsupervised has been acquired by MoMA and is now in the museum’s permanent collection! This acquisition marks a grand milestone in our studio’s journey and also for digital art. It inscribes a historic chapter as MoMA welcomes the first Generative AI and tokenized artwork into its esteemed permanent collection. I am infinitely grateful to our curators Michelle Kuo, Paola Antonelli, and Stuart Comer for their wisdom and the entire MoMA team’s genuine support and collaboration since the beginning of the project. We are also profoundly thankful to our collectors, Ryan Zurrer, Pablo Rodriguez-Fraile, and Desiree Casoni, and NVIDIA for supporting our journey. I am so excited to wake up to this news: MoMA is collecting CryptoPunks and many incredible digital art to the esteemed collection!! I’m deeply grateful that Unsupervised helped pave this path 2 years ago, becoming the first generative AI and blockchain art to welcome 3 million visitors into the museum. We proved then that this is not a fringe movement; it is the heartbeat of our time. Digital art is the medium we inherit as a community born on the internet. We all left the doors open for everyone’s dreams and future is bright! Let’s build it together!!!
