They said photography wasn’t art. They said cinema wasn’t art. They said video games weren’t art. Now they say AI arts/digital art isn’t art. I’ve spent over a decade with my studio team turning millions of data points into living, breathing artwork experiences ethically — at MoMA, at the Guggenheim, at the Venice Biennale. Not because a machine told me what to create, but because I had a vision that no traditional tool could realize. Denying all AI technologies as an artistic medium doesn’t protect art. It limits it. The artists who embrace new tools don’t replace the old masters — they join them. Art is not defined by the brush. It’s defined by the intention, the emotion, and the courage to see the world differently.

Dear friends, I’m deeply honored to announce that our artwork Unsupervised has been acquired by MoMA and is now in the museum’s permanent collection! This acquisition marks a grand milestone in our studio’s journey and also for digital art. It inscribes a historic chapter as MoMA welcomes the first Generative AI and tokenized artwork into its esteemed permanent collection. I am infinitely grateful to our curators Michelle Kuo, Paola Antonelli, and Stuart Comer for their wisdom and the entire MoMA team’s genuine support and collaboration since the beginning of the project. We are also profoundly thankful to our collectors, Ryan Zurrer, Pablo Rodriguez-Fraile, and Desiree Casoni, and NVIDIA for supporting our journey. For almost a year now, our artwork brought the museum audience joy, inspiration, and hope! Thank you, New York and all the visitors of MoMA from my heart!

Dear friends, Today, I am so excited to share our Studio’s groundbreaking project, the Large Nature Model - the world’s first open-source, generative AI model focused on Nature. This model, built from an extensive, ethically sourced natural world dataset, is central to our ambitious DATALAND project. DATALAND is a unique museum and Web3 platform dedicated to data visualization and AI art. It’s a collaborative effort, bringing together pioneers in diverse fields including the arts, scientific researchers, institutional archives, and advanced technology under the artistic leadership of Refik Anadol Studio. Here at the World Economic Forum, we’re presenting “Living Archive: Nature,” an installation featuring the Large Nature Model’s early artistic experimentations based on the Large Nature Model, blending visuals, sound, and scent. Dear friends, I’m deeply excited to announce the world’s first Museum of AI Arts — Dataland , opening in Los Angeles, California, right next to some of the city’s iconic arts institutions such as WDCH, MOCA and The Broad. Designed by my hero Frank Gehry, The Grand LA will be the home of our most ambitious and exciting dream. Dear Friends, Years ago, standing deep in the Amazon rainforest with Efsun, I realized I was not observing nature — I was standing inside a living intelligence. The forest was computing its own environment, translating invisible forces into physical form. That experience changed everything. 🌿 For ten years, we painted with data. Light was our brush. Buildings were our canvas. The pigments never dried because they were never physical. But we never stopped thinking about the canvas — the real one. The one you can touch. For the past year, our studio has been quietly building a bridge. We connected our Large Nature Model to advanced robotics, and for the first time, we are translating the memory of the Earth and the emotions of our collectors into real, physical brushstrokes. Dear Friends, I'm so excited to announce the commencement of the unveiling process for our newest generative art collection, Winds of Yawanawa – a co-creation between the Brazilian Indigenous Yawanawa community and Refik Anadol Studio. It is a collection of 1000 unique AI Data Paintings and an Edition of 3 Data Sculptures, merging weather data from the tribe’s village in the Amazonian rainforest with the works of young Yawanawa artists. Today, we are releasing a teaser featuring 1000 stills from the entire collection, offering a glimpse of the forthcoming artworks. On Wednesday, October 4th, we will share how these captivating still AI Data Paintings evolve into data pigmentations. Then, beginning on Monday, October 9th, over a span of five days, we'll unveil the artworks based on token IDs. Please see the reveal schedule below for details!
