I enjoyed meeting President Trump for the first time after his address to Congress. I took the brief opportunity to mention our mutual friend Mike Leach and we had warm exchange about the “great, great coach.” Mike used to talk with me frequently about his friendship with President Trump, including once secretly visiting Mara Lago during a bye week and discussing his own interest in potentially running for political office when he hung up the whistle. “You would have my complete and total support.” (Mike’s incredible personal skills, story telling ability and no BS common sense would have made him a very innovative and effective elected official.) I’m sure at some point in the future I will have an opportunity to discuss substantive policy with the President, but I’m also looking forward to some hopeful lighter moments to share Leach stories. Mike was the best and I have zero doubt that he is watching down with a big smile on his face as he’s telling a few stories about some guys he know right now. (Thank you to the many of my friends who sent me screen shots and clips). 🇺🇸

America and the world need a United Kingdom that is confident in its history and one with a capable military able to meet pressing challenges. I was impressed with King Charles speech to Congress in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. Like all Americans I prefer our Republican system of government. Like all Americans I’m glad that we don’t have kings, but I’ also glad that the UK has one. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧

We have too damn many sea lions eating too many salmon at the mouth of the Columbia River. Taxpayers in Washington state are tired of spending so much money to protect salmon when a simple part of the solution is staring us in the face - shoot, trap and kill sea lions to reduce their number to the historically appropriate level. Stop letting environmental extremists and layers of bureaucracy get in the way of common sense. Kill👏More👏Sea lions👏 Save👏More👏Salmon👏

The greed of the SEC, the Big Ten, ESPN & Fox Sports helped break the traditional model of college athletics. Don’t tell me you care about student athlete welfare if you’re destroying traditional conference rivalries and putting volleyball teams on transcontinental flights twice a week. That’s absurd. As Congress looks to pass legislation to protect the future of college athletics, it is vital that we do so to help small schools across the country and not just the big $ football programs of the SEC and Big Ten.

Looks like the Big Beautiful Bill is going to fail (at least for tonight). 4 Rs voting No with the 212 D’s on the rule and several other hold-outs choosing not to vote. What happens next? 1) We’ll probably come back and try again tomorrow. 2)Some Orange fury is going to rain down on certain folks 3) It will very likely eventually pass, because failure means a giant tax increase for America. We’ll keep working at it, but disappointed tonight. 🇺🇸

I’ll have my phone on all night in case some of these guys decide to get right and switch their votes , but for the time being it’s a tuna melt and tortilla chips. We’ll be back at it tomorrow. (What an unusual last 24 hours). I was hoping to get back to a kids track meet tomorrow , but will be happily determined to be out here in DC as long as it takes to get this done. I remain optimistic we will. 🇺🇸

Donald Trump is not the REPUBLICAN President, he is the AMERICAN President. Rep. Al Green’s rude, prolonged and quasi- threatening gesture of cane shaking and yelling at President Trump as he addressed Congress was beneath the dignity of the House and the American People. It was proper that Speaker Johnson ordered him physically removed from the Chamber last night and it is appropriate that he be censured. 🇺🇸

Big day down at the White House where I will be joining President Trump for the signing of the bill to OVERTURN the totally unworkable California and Washington electric truck mandate that would have foolishly banned the diesel long haul trucks that deliver over 70% of the goods and groceries the American people use every day. This would have crippled our economy and surged inflation in Washington state. Big rigs can’t run on unicorn laughter and rainbows, they need a realistic fuel source. Bad day for Jay Inslee, good day for America. Thought you’d enjoy the scene. 🇺🇸
