In 2012, when I was 25 years old, I made one of the worst decisions of my life. After learning that my dad’s cancer had spread to his brain, I got behind the wheel after drinking and was arrested for DWI. I’m grateful that no one was hurt, and I’m especially thankful to the police officers who pulled me over that night. Their actions likely prevented a tragedy. I don’t share this story because I’m proud of it or to make an excuse. I share it because I hope someone else can learn from my mistake. No matter what you’re going through, there is never a justification for driving impaired. If you’ve been drinking or using drugs, don’t drive. If someone else has, don’t get in the car with them. Call a friend. Call a parent. Use a rideshare. Find another way home.

Humanitarian aid must reach those who truly need it, not strengthen organizations with ties to terrorism. But the fact is, UNRWA has been corrupted by Hamas for years, with documented ties to terrorism. That’s why Rep Josh Gottheimer and I have introduced the bipartisan Replace UNRWA with Real Humanitarian Assistance Act to abolish UNRWA and replace it with trusted partners that will deliver aid to those who need it, without empowering terrorist organizations.

I’m proud that my bill, the Antisemitism Awareness Act, just passed the House of Representatives 320 to 91. This bill has broad, bipartisan support and will begin the process of cracking down on the antisemitism we’ve seen run rampant on college campuses across America.

We need a legal path forward that allows individuals with U.S.-citizen children and grandchildren to come out of the shadows, pay back taxes and a fine, and contribute—without receiving government benefits. This is not a pathway to citizenship under any circumstances for anyone who broke our laws by coming to the United States. Our immigration system has been broken for 40 years, and doing nothing is not an option.

Unlike some of my colleagues who are recycling the same talking points, I’m willing to work across the aisle to avoid a shutdown. I’d encourage Leader Jeffries and the Democrats trying to politicize a shutdown to join me on Problem Solvers’ bipartisan short-term funding bill.

This week, the Syria Sanctions Accountability Act was marked up and passed the Financial Services Committee with bipartisan support. I introduced this bill to modernize the existing sanctions regime on Syria. As the Trump Administration reviews sanctions policy, we must ensure they have the tools needed.

This morning, I joined Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann, Veterans Angels of Hope, and volunteers from the Clarkstown Hockey Team to distribute free holiday dinner bags to military and veteran families. We distributed 160 dinner bags that included ham, potatoes, vegetables, and Girl Scout cookies. Thank you to all our veterans and military families, and happy holidays to all!

I represent the second-largest Haitian diaspora in the country, many of whom serve in our healthcare system and make invaluable contributions to our communities. If the administration is going to end TPS, it must do so through an orderly process. That means extending work authorization during the six-month period these cases are being adjudicated to provide stability for families, employers, and the communities they serve.

Let there be no doubt, we will defend our ally Israel, our other partners in the region, and our military and diplomatic personnel. Iran should understand that there will be grave consequences for any actions they take in response to this justified strike on their nuclear facilities.

I just signed a discharge petition to advance forward bipartisan legislation to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits for 2-years, inclusive of significant insurance reforms, income limits, PBA reforms, and HSA expansion. This is the only bill that has a chance of becoming law. It’s time for everyone to put party aside and get this done. This discharge petition already has enough Republicans signed on, if every single Democrat would join us — and the vote could happen immediately. Let’s get it done.

Americans were rightly frustrated during the Biden years, when open borders allowed more than 10.5 million migrants to enter the country illegally. Over the last nine months, illegal crossings have effectively dropped to net zero. Most Americans agree criminal aliens should be deported. At the same time, if someone has lived here for years, is working, has no criminal record, and has American citizen children or grandchildren, there should be a lawful way forward. This is not amnesty and not a pathway to citizenship.

Yesterday, I hosted U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy at Westchester County Airport (HPN) for a tour of the airport’s air traffic control tower and ongoing FAA-funded infrastructure projects, highlighting Congress’s and the Administration’s investments in modernizing America’s aviation system and strengthening transportation infrastructure throughout the Hudson Valley. Following consistent advocacy, the Administration allocated $18 million to Westchester County Airport to fund air traffic control upgrades. These improvements will replace aging technology with new equipment designed to improve safety, strengthen system reliability, and enhance efficiency across the nation’s aviation network. In total, a $12.5 billion investment to modernize America’s air traffic control system was included in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.

This visit marked the first time in nearly 50 years that a sitting president visited Rockland County since President Gerald R. Ford’s stop in New City during the 1976 presidential campaign. I want to thank President Trump for honoring Welles Crowther with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognizing his extraordinary courage, selflessness, and enduring legacy. It was also incredibly moving to see Yorktown’s Sheridan Gorman recognized, with her mother’s heartfelt remarks leaving not a dry eye in the room. Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help make this historic event possible and such a success for Rockland County and the Hudson Valley.
