A month ago I posted a selfie from my PhD days and admitted I was having an existential crisis. This is what the crisis produced. "Can AI Model the Entire Universe?" The essay is built around the conjecture Demis Hassabis closed his Nobel Lecture with -- that any pattern found in nature can be efficiently modeled by a classical learning algorithm. I wanted to take that seriously. Rigorously. Personally.
