BMC on Sunday demolished 150 unauthorised residential and commercial structures at Amar Nagar and Khindipada in Mulund to facilitate the construction of the 12.2-km Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project. Civic officials said around 384 structures were identified as obstructing the project alignment, of which 150 were removed. The remaining 234 structures are slated for demolition next week.

Mumbai: Tensions flared at the Dadar Kabutarkhana on Wednesday morning after several members of the Jain community attempted to forcibly remove a cover placed by the BMC to restrict pigeon feeding at the site. The civic body had installed the cover over the weekend following ongoing concerns about public health hazards caused by indiscriminate pigeon feeding. A heavy police bandobast was deployed at the location as dozens of community members, visibly agitated, gathered to protest the move. Jadhav lived with his family and is survived by his aged parents, a nine-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. BMC on Wednesday demolished 61 illegal structures near Mulund station, clearing approximately 1,100 square metres of encroached land. The demolition drive was carried out by the civic body’s T Ward along Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road in Mulund (West). Four JCB machines and seven dumpers were deployed for the operation, with around 70 civic officials and staff on site. Adequate police presence was ensured to maintain law and order. Reacting to the drive, BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya described the action as “Bangladeshi-mukt Mulund station.” In a post on social media X, Somaiyya alleged that several coconut sellers operating in the area were Bangladeshi nationals using forged documents, and claimed the action followed his visit and complaint to the authorities.

Over a fortnight after two judges inspected the Kanjurmarg landfill site, BMC chief Ashwini Bhide inspected it with a team of officials early today. The visit comes amidst recurring complaints from residents living around it regarding a foul smell continuing to come out of the space. The landfill is spread across 118.14 hectares (approximately 292 acres)& handles over 6,000 MT of municipal solid waste.
