Mike Greenberg arrived at ESPN only a few months after I did in 1996 and he’s been there ever since, headlining so many important shows for the company on both the TV and radio side of things…which made him a natural fit for the first season of “This Was SportsCenter” In episode 3 of the series, Greeny tells a hilarious story about his first day on the job at SportsCenter as I learned we had the same first co-anchor to boot.

Part of why I wanted to create This Was SportsCenter: take you behind the scenes of some of the competition BETWEEN the anchors going on at the time. When Keith Olbermann left, it sparked an unofficial audition amongst the anchors to get the seat next to Dan Patrick. I talk about it with DP in this clip, with Stuart Scott and his legendary competitive nature taking center stage for both us…but in completely different ways.

Episode 5 of This Was SportsCenter is out and our guest is someone who hasn’t hosted SportsCenter in over 30 years. But that’s because Chris Fowler has been a bit busy launching College GameDay and becoming ESPN’s face and voice for college football. Oh, and also tennis. Chris and I hardly crossed paths in my first few years at ESPN but I’m so glad we eventually did because he’s become such a dear friend for decades.

In a live chat recorded at the Strand Theater in San Francisco back during Super Bowl Week in February, we covered his first 47 years at ESPN from soup to nuts. The latest episode of “This Was SportsCenter” is out and, of course, the first season of this show had to feature the person who has anchored more editions of SportsCenter than any other human — Linda Cohn. This episode is just like our shows together back in the day, which means it’s a complete laugh riot chock full of great stories and throwback videos. I told Linda stories she never knew and she dropped one on me about Stuart Scott that I never knew.
