Shorts

Heavy isometrics are the lowest-hanging fruit when it comes to strength training for runners. There is no muscle damage, so they don’t make you sore. There is no technique or skill required, especially when you use a machine. Here I’m using the hamstring curl machine. After squeezing a relatively heavy weight for about 30 seconds, the hamstring muscle relaxes and the strain shifts to the tendon. Stronger tendons equal more force production, fewer injuries, and better running performance. It’s super simple. Hold a heavy fixed position for 30-60 seconds, then repeat for multiple sets if it’s a problem area. You can do these every day, multiple times a day. Isometrics are a game changer.

If there were a Marathon of Only You Would you run it? No one watching No one knows No one cares Do we run for ourselves? I wonder how good our PBs would feel if there were no Strava or Twitter Maybe I should avoid thinking about this But there’s lot of time to think on a run

Long slow distance runs allow me to do what I love (running) for a longer time and because I take it slow & easy, I don’t feel wiped out afterwards. They also help build fitness. But sometimes just doing what you enjoy and what makes you feel good is the best way to do things.

Today is the day I won’t get faster. Today I’ll get passed and that’s ok. Today my run won’t get any kudos on Strava, my watch will tell me I’m unproductive and that’s fine too. Today I’m just going to chill on my feet. Today I’m doing exactly what I need for tomorrow.
