I took the challenge because I saw how people were suffering. People were lining up for fuel, fertiliser, and medicine. Schools were shut down, businesses were at a standstill. I saw the struggle and knew I had to step in. It wasn’t easy, but I took the reins with one goal in mind, to turn things around, and I did it. I reached out to global leaders, from the IMF to the World Bank, even the Prime Minister of Japan. I knew we needed international support to rebuild. And we got it. With these aids, we started making progress. Slowly but surely, we began to stabilise. Every step of the way, there were tough calls to make. But I tackled each one head-on, knowing that recovery was on the horizon. It was about reducing the immediate burden and setting the stage for long-term growth. I didn’t stop there. We rolled out significant support measures, increasing subsidies and providing scholarships. We gave land rights to thousands, ensuring that everyone, especially the underprivileged communities, had a stake in our country’s future. We focused on modernising agriculture, transforming rural areas into thriving communities. Tourism started picking up, bringing in much-needed revenue. It was clear, we were on the right track. Today, our economy is showing signs of strength. The rupee is stabilising, and we have essential goods in stock. We’re not done yet, but we’re on our way. Our path forward is clear—we continue working together, honoring our commitments, and keeping an eye on the next step. This isn’t just about getting by, it’s about thriving. We’re creating a future for our young people, ensuring they have opportunities right here at home. We can be like Singapore, like Dubai. It’s within our reach. I’m running as an independent candidate, stepping away from old politics. It’s time for a new era, and I need your support to make it happen. Let’s build a prosperous, united Sri Lanka together. Thank you for believing in our future. Let’s move forward, stronger than ever.

I visited the AiGrow Company's greenhouse premises in Nelumdeniya, Kegalle, built by Dr Harsha Subhasinghe who pioneered the production of the Vega car. We can tackle today's agricultural challenges by implementing a comprehensive modernisation program using AI and other technologies. This year, we'll target 100 Divisional Secretariat Divisions for modern agriculture, starting with 25 in the first phase and another 75 in the second. We invite private entrepreneurs to join this initiative, offering government support with necessary training and financial facilities.

I’ve always said that if our banking system collapses, our entire economy and country will collapse. A strong banking system is a must for a nation’s stability. We’ve worked hard and are now seeing results. We’ve secured an $8 billion debt relief package as part of our debt restructuring. Our economy is on the rise again, but we need foreign investment for further growth. Despite fixing the economy, our political system remains broken. Leaders ran away in fear. We need strong, fearless leaders who can face reality, take responsibility, and keep moving forward. The future depends on today’s actions. We need a responsible political system. I united all main parties for disciplined governance, and young MPs have joined us for the country’s future. Let’s keep working to align our political system with our economic progress.

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to amend the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code to prohibit corporal punishment in all forms. This milestone achievement comes after more than 20 years of efforts by child protection activists. Once gazetted, the bill will move to Parliament for final approval. The best interest of the child must be at the forefront of all legislation and regulation concerning children. It is the state’s duty to take all necessary actions to ensure children are protected from the multiple challenges posed by developments in modern society. There has been a marked increase in violence and abuse against women and children. The rise of social media has only increased the nature and gravity of these crimes, making it essential that the child protection system effectively minimises the problems children face and strengthens the state’s response to incidents of violence and abuse. We have established women and children desks in all 604 police stations island-wide, addressing previous shortcomings where over 250 stations had no desks. Many stations didn’t even offer the bare necessities, compromising victims’ privacy and comfort. Given the alarming rise in abuse cases, providing a proper environment and increasing the number of female officers, as well as facilities that meet minimum standards, are key steps in strengthening the state’s response. We plan to equip all stations with the necessary resources to investigate crimes against women and children, including cybercrimes like stalking, cyberbullying, blackmail, trafficking, and pornography. This is important not just for the safety and well-being of our children today, but to ensure a safer, more just society for future generations as well.
