A personal message: Five years ago, my younger brother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. While we’re incredibly grateful that he responded well to treatment, the sad reality is that too many families of pediatric cancer patients aren’t as lucky. Please take a moment to watch his video, and if you can, send a message to your state’s U.S. Senators to urge them to vote yes on the Mikaela Naylon Give Kids a Chance Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to expedite the process of developing new treatment options for pediatric patients by providing the FDA with the authority to compel pharmaceutical companies to study the efficacy of combination drug therapies in children. This will help increase survival rates while minimizing treatment-induced side effects, many of which are irreversible. In return, the companies can receive priority review vouchers, which is mutually beneficial to the pediatric patients as it makes new drugs available sooner.
