This 1995 Telugu movie appeared without much expectations, no big star hero, not much hype. But the movie was not just a success, it was a sensation. Ammoru's story was quite old, the Devi coming to the rescue of her devotees. It was the narration that made the difference. Just imagine a 90s Telugu movie coming up with this kinda VFX, it just stunned audiences. The climax where the Ammoru kills the evil Tantrik sheer goosebumps. Theaters became mini temples, ladies got a free saree and sindoor. Ammoru was also a turning point for it's two leading ladies, Soundarya became a leading start. Ramya Krishna till then known mostly for glam roles, showed a new aspect of hers and became the first choice for all those Devi roles. The movie was the vision of 2 people, producer M.Shyam Prasad Reddy who wanted to make a movie with Hollywood style graphics in Telugu and director Kodi Ramakrishna whose usage of VFX in Ammoru, followed by Anji, Devullu, Devi, Devi Putrudu and Arundhati was top notch and an inspiration for many other directors.

First it was Indigo issue where he took on Aviation Ministry, next AQI issue he took on Rekha Gupta, and today on #SaveAravali issue not spared the BJP Govts. This is like Arnab back how he used to be. What exactly is happening at Republic, thought to be most pro Govt channel?

Movie name - Sambayya Loose translation of dialogue Cop- There are riots in the city, if you go wearing this Tilak, Muslims will attack you. Srihari- I put this Tilak to pray for my brother's health, why would it cause issues. If removing this Tilak would stop riots, I am willing to remove even my head. Going by your logic all Hindu ladies here should remove their bottu( Bindi) and live like widows then. " I am Sambayya, an ordinary pan shop owner, I am a Ram Bhakt, what do I have to do with all these communal riots". Srihari's movies as a hero had rather bold dialogues for their time. However they were not too successful so he shifted to character roles where he made as much an impact. Sadly died at a rather young age when he still had more to offer.

37 years of Gitanjali. Released during May, the movie was not just a success, it was a phenomenon of it's time. A milestone in Nag's career. It was a typical Boy Meets Girl story only here both of em are having a terminal disease. It was Mani Ratnam's narration that made all the difference, way he etched out the relationship between the two, the growing love, it was more sensitive, subtle. Mani was already popular in Telugu land with dubbed versions of Mouna Raagam, Nayagan, Agni Natchatram( Gharshana) all Proving to be as big a success as their Tamil original. This was his first and only direct movie in Telugu. And his taking was something never seen before in Telugu cinema. The picturization of the songs was mind blowing. Heroine's intro song Jallantha Kavintha was so beautifully shot, almost on same level as Julie Andrews intro in Sound of Music. Or the epic level picturization of Oh Priya Priya. Or Oh Papa Laali with it's dreamy, misty landscape. Mani created a kind of dream world on the screen with rainy, misty landscapes, lush green hills. Ooty never looked so beautiful on screen. PC Sreeram's camera work was outstanding. And Ilayaraja what can be said, Maestro creates magic with one of his best albums ever. Had this cassette at home used to play it non stop. The BGM was equally great. Gitanjali was the kinda movie whose appeal cut across all boundaries . Youth, families, middle aged, elders just about everyone loved it. It dominated conversations, "Have you seen Gitanjali" was the question that invariably popped up. 1989 would be Nag's year, this and Shiva forever changed Telugu cinema in many ways.
