$SADDENED: Having covered Parliament since the early 1990s, I am deeply disappointed to see these images of a near-fracas between ruling party and opposition MPs in the Parliament precincts. This is what happens when: 1.Politics becomes hyper-polarised and hyper-partisan. 2.Central Hall — once a wonderful space for genuine inter-party conversation — is shut down. A crazy Covid-era decision that should be revoked ASAP. 3.The ruling party treats Parliament as a notice board, while the Opposition treats the House as its only forum to vent. 4.MPs cross from one side to the other with total impunity, simply to remain on the right side of power. 5.Too few MPs are willing to do the hard grind of parliamentary work. 6.Senior MPs and ministers fail to lead by example. Many of them don’t even come to the House as often as they should. 7. Those in the Chair, whose first duty should be to uphold the dignity and neutrality of the House, often fail to show even a modicum of impartiality. Parliament is not just about shouting across the aisle. It is also about talking across it. How one misses the likes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Somnath Chatterjee and Jaipal Reddy — stellar parliamentarians who relished the cut and thrust of debate, but also understood that political opponents need not be personal enemies. We are losing something far more valuable than parliamentary decorum: the culture of Parliament itself. VERY VERY TROUBLING in the 80th year of Independence. 🙏$

LATEST: as feared, lathi charge, instances of stone pelting and total chaos at Jantar Mantar. In a democracy, the streets should never become a battlefield! Dialogue is being defeated by disorder sadly. Or is this designed to discredit what was a remarkably peaceful and organic protest for the past 3 weeks? Who placed/brought stones to the venue in the first place? 🙏

MUMBAI RAINS: A landslide has been reported near the exit of Tunnel 2 on the newly opened ‘Missing Link’ of the Mumbai–Pune Expressway after heavy rain, forcing traffic to be suspended. The images are alarming. Please stay safe, everyone. Prayers for all. 🙏 (And yes, an obvious question: if a single spell of heavy rain can trigger such disruption, are we building infrastructure that’s truly monsoon-ready?)

UTTER IDIOCY: a self styled Hindu vigilante group storms a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad and forces it to shut down, saying can’t sell meat during the month of Sawan. Please don’t eat chicken, but why stop others? And why are cops missing in action yet again ? JIYO AUR JEENE DO for god sake! (By the way, what about the ‘mutton party’ of a BJP ally in Bihar?)

IMPORTANT: Yesterday it was Lonavala-Khandala. Today, another landslide, this time in Wayanad has left at least one person dead and several injured. As the Western Ghats are battered by torrential rain, let’s remember: these aren’t just ‘acts of God’. They are also the result of ‘acts of humans’—the relentless destruction of forests, reckless construction and ecological neglect have made the Ghats far more fragile. Nature is sending us repeated warnings. Are we listening? Prayers for all. 🙏

Pakistan’s leading newspaper Dawn fact checks its own foreign minister and deputy prime minister for spreading fake news quoting a non existent article in The Daily Telegraph of London! Good to see. And a salutary message to journalists/social media handles on BOTH sides of LOC: truth telling is NOT anti national, it keeps citizens informed and makes nations stronger!👍🙏

INTERESTING: BJP still party number one, short of 272 but well ahead of competition (Cong 106) and as per Team C-Voter Mood of the Nation but there are warning signals (down 26 seats compared to Jan 2026 findings and decline mainly in Hindi heartland) .

FACE OF URBAN INFRA: Gurugram reportedly has the highest net worth individuals per sq km (along with Mumbai’s Malabar Hill) but clearly NO proper drainage. Another day of rain, familiar water-logging. Citizens will rant on social media but little seems to change on ground.
