I’ve so many videos to share from the Ulster Bands Showcase at the Titanic Slipways tonight as part of the Fleadh, but the finale was the highlight of the night. Privileged to be backstage with the Shankill Road Defenders on the gig rig at City Hall this afternoon. The crowd was buzzing and the reception they got from the second they stepped out the doors of City Hall was incredible. Just a few of their tunes from today!

Great afternoon at the Fleadh fringe event in Donegall Pass. Great show of culture and talent on display, and how great are the wee totes from the Molly Smyth school of Highland dancing! Had to leave for another event but the community were looking forward to South Belfast Young Conquerors playing to round off the event.

Shockingly we were back in the chamber tonight, not debating something urgent for the people of Belfast, but demanding that the UK Government capitulate to the demands of those on remand for serious criminal offences. The proposers demanded an urgent meeting, then complained it was called too quickly. That tells you everything. This was never an emergency. Just political theatre.

𝐁𝐂𝐂 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲 At last nights meeting of the full council I spoke against the Draft Irish Language Policy. We are being asked to agree a policy which is 𝚌𝚘𝚜𝚝𝚕𝚢, 𝚍𝚒𝚟𝚒𝚜𝚒𝚟𝚎 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚞𝚗𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚍𝚎𝚍! I proposed that no decision should be made on this policy until the 𝚏𝚞𝚕𝚕 and 𝚝𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚜𝚙𝚊𝚛𝚎𝚗𝚝 costings are available, and that 𝙊𝙉𝙇𝙔 Belfast residents and ratepayers can respond to the consultation. Really disappointed that the 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆 joined with the 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘆, 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗶𝗻, 𝗦𝗗𝗟𝗣, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗕𝗣 to vote against allowing Belfast ratepayers to have a say on what their rates are spent on!
